lol.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostThat's fair. However, I guess I'm seeing from my perspective of how I thought when I played HS ball. I would have killed for the opportunity to go against Haws and Emery and the #1 ranked team in the country and while we might have lost I would have tried to score 30 in the process. For my coach to take the ball out of my hands and tell me to stand around for most of the first half in the state semi's against a team like that- well, I would have told him to go fuck himself and jacked up as many shots as I possibly could until he pulled me from game and sent me to the locker room. I can't imagine, as a player, standing around and simply not competing. But perhaps you're right, that from a strategic standpoint, it may have been their best chance to win. It just doesn't sit right with me. Bottom line, the UHSAA needs to implement a shot clock.
Yeah ok.
You couldn't score 30 in a Jr. Jazz game let alone in a HS game.

You act as though scoring 30 in a HS game is a hard thing to do. Perhaps it was for you and that's okay. I might not have been able to put up 30 against this LP team, but in the state semifinal I sure as hell would have tried. I wouldn't have put up with holding the ball for 11 minutes.Originally posted by fusnik View Postlol.

I wonder if Lewis was just trying to conserve his players' energy for the finals.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostLP allowed Brighton to do the stall. The 5-second "closely guarded" rule is called very tightly at the HS level in Utah. Given their ability to play pressure defense, they could have easily countered that strategy. From the post-game comments, I am guessing that the LP coach purposefully allowed it to happen just to make things interesting."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Between Parker Van Dyke, Brandon Miller, Jalen Moore, Sam Merrill, four D1 players and over 85 games there are 7 30 point games this year.
So unless you were a legit Division 1 prospect, or even if you are, it's pretty damn hard to score 30 in a HS game.

If his point is that for some it is hard to score 30 in HS basketball and for others it is not so hard, then yes.Originally posted by Pelado View PostI'm like LeBron James.

Not sure if anyone saw the twitter exchange between Kevin Nixon and Jeff Chatman.
Chatman said his son Jordan is now 6'5 and has grown an inch since he left on his mission. He said that he did not stop growing until he was 20 and thinks Jordan might have a little more room.
Nixon said that his son Dalton is now 6'8 and still has room on his growth plates they are projecting at least 6'9. He also said Dalton is a stretch 4 that can play inside or outside, perfect for Dave Rose system.*Banned*

I could believe that about Dalton. He's got BB players on both sides of the family, and he did seem to have grown some from his soph to jun season. I also think he can be a great 4 in Rose's system. Great shooting touch and he's a little weak inside right now, but his body looks like the type that will pack on some muscle once he stops growing.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostNot sure if anyone saw the twitter exchange between Kevin Nixon and Jeff Chatman.

SMR, you know your basketball, but you got caught in a bit of hyperbole here. It is rare to see HS players to go for 30. I would concede your point if you had selected 20, but that extra 10 doesn't happen that often. This is due to short quarters, lots of zone primarily focusing on the best player, and generally a lot fewer shooting fouls called. The exceptions to this are big semi-skilled kids playing against shorter competition, or Randy/Robbie Reid-like teams that allow one player to take 80% of the shots.Originally posted by smokymountainrain View PostIf his point is that for some it is hard to score 30 in HS basketball and for others it is not so hard, then yes.
LP played as tough of schedule as any HS team I've ever seen, this year, and went against lots of top talent. I would be surprised if more than 2 players went for 30 against them all year. But maybe I'm underestimating what type of player you are/were.
