Sorry. Posting from my phone. Its true though. Does cj really think plaisted wouldn't have been as good under cleveland , as he implies? Seems unlikely.

I don't know. I'm trying to think of post players under Cleveland who showed similar progression as those who cj mentioned under Rose and I'm coming up blank. You remember any?Originally posted by Jacob View PostSorry. Posting from my phone. Its true though. Does cj really think plaisted wouldn't have been as good under cleveland , as he implies? I'm still a little intrigued by this kid. He scored 40 on 12 three pointers in the Utah County all star game.Originally posted by jay santos View PostA name to keep in the back of your head: Alejandro Llamas. He's a senior at Salem Hills. He's a new move in from Mexico. I'm not sure if he'll qualify academically or if he's 28 years old already. I heard he's from Raul Delgado's hometown and came to Utah County in a similar way. He's averaging 22 a game. He's about 6'0 and very skinny, but lightning quick and as smooth a shooter as you will ever see. He had 27 at halftime last night. He's very undisciplined with a streetball type game, but he has some mad skills. I bet he goes to a JC and ends up a pretty sought after JC recruit.

There is a tweet in that tweet thread from a tweeter named Haws that tells them cougarboard makes one dumber. On CB there was that rumor earlier and it was denied by Bstod- who I think is Lone Peak's asst coach. My guess and prediction is that TJ wants to play a year with his brother and that year will be the year after next year. But if you look at the roster that year it should be:Originally posted by MarkGrace View PostApparently rumor from a Gman tweet that TJ is thinking about reclassifying so he can enroll at BYU this fall.
Carlino, Haws the Older, Collinsworth the Younger, Winder, Halford, Tumalla (hopefully or another JC player), Chatman JeffSon, Austin, Harward, Worthington, Isaac Nelson, and Adam Sharp.
That leaves only one more scholarship spot and BYU has commitments from TJ, Nixon, Toolsen and my guess is eventually Payton Dastrup and perhaps Brekkot Chapman (since I am wishing for Sai Tummala I might as well dream big, eh?) If nobody moves along there is only room for one of those freshman. Chapman isn't going on a mission at all. Also, BYU's needs are in the post as that projected roster has the following for its post players:
Isaac Nelson - Freshman
Nate Austin - Senior
Adam Sharp - Senior
?? Worthington - Sophmore
Ian Harward - Junior
Sai Tummala - Junior
I gotta think that of all those freshman Dastrup is the most important to find a scholarship for. In essence methinks that there will be some roster turnover this year. I am thinking I will be surprised if both Harward and Winder return for next year.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I see both Winder and Raul Delgado as interchangeable. There might be some minor areas where one has an advantage over the other but for the most part they are both mediocre college players. Either could be a decent back up for BYU but if either starts it is an indicator that BYU is lacking legitimate ability. Personally, I think that one of them will play 8-20 mpg next year depending on foul trouble but that the other will ride the pine almost exclusively. It is my totally unfounded speculative opinion that BYU's perimeter minutes will break down as such:Originally posted by wapiti View PostI think Winder can help next year. Harward should probably focus on his studies.
Haws - 32 mpg
Carlino - 32 mpg
Collinsworth - 26 mpg
Halford - 20 mpg
Delgado or Winder - 10 mpg
I think that we will see plenty of minutes with Halford and Carlino on the court together. I think Halford is going to be a solid player for BYU. In essence I project him to be much more Austin Ainge in ability than Craig Cusick. As far as Delgado vs Winder for those last minutes I don't really see much of a difference between the two. If Rose moves to take one scholarship from a perimeter player I think it likely to be Winder and my biggest reason is because Delgado is a senior and if Winder transfers it opens an extra scholarship for the season after next. I do think TJ Haws has had a change of heart wrt going on his mission straight out of HS and he wants to play a year at BYU with his brother and moving Winder along is a step towards that end.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I'm intrigued by the Halford kid. I assumed he was another SLCC scrub that chucked up a lot of deep shots. I was pleasantly surprised to see him shooting in traffic and going to the rim. He isn't offensively quick so that will hurt him but Rose is clearly looking for another ball handler who can shoot from deep and put some pressure on the D. Basically, he looks like a smaller Carlino.

I'm with CJ on this. WTF are you talking about? Rose was doing a fine job of developing bigs but with the addition of Mark Pope, the footwork, confidence and development has blown up. Recall for a second, the back to basket skills of Noah Hartsock. He had a nice release on his shot and a solid fade-away going either direction but with a single offseason, Pope showed him how to turn those shots into a ton of points with the use of an excellent drop step and even a jump hook. Davies, likewise, has had huge development in his post skills. His ability to establish position has improved tremendously. His biggest problem used to be getting the ball too far out because he had no idea how to get it deep. Now he gets deep catches and turns them into layups.Originally posted by Jacob View PostSince I'm down on Rose at the moment, I must fall back to the position I have held for years. I would advise an aspiring big man to avoid committing to BYU. Mika should go elsewhere if he wants to develop as a big man. Stew Morril would be a better choice due to his superiour coaching and offense orientated to bigs, but Mika would have better opportunities than that.
I think any big would do well to play at BYU. We still basically play a 4-1 motion. When we have a 4 that can shoot the 3 our 5 gets a lot of iso plays on deep catches and the defense doesn't help. A highly skilled back to the basket 5 can make a living at the Y. This is especially important since we haven't had one of those under Rose ... ever. All of the 5s under rose were projects that he developed. I believe that a kid like Mika (who I've played against and can vouch for as a player) is going to abuse people in Rose's system.
On the subject of Mika. I played him last summer as a favor to a friend. He is probably 6'9" but could be a little bigger. He is as physical an inside presence as I've played against at the HS level (remember I came up in Big East country so the physical style is my thing). Surprisingly for a Utah big, he plays above the rim. He is not as great jumping off two legs as he is off one but he still can dunk on you even when you are playing good D. Best of all, he can step back and shoot or step back and put the ball on the deck to get to the rim. He's very physically fit and much stronger than Nate Austin (Nate is taller but still pretty physically weak and plays smaller). All in all, Mika is one of the best HS players I've played against. Maybe its just that I'm getting old but I would put his HS game as a similar level to Rasheed Wallace's at this stage of their careers. Very different style HS players but netting out to about the same level. This kid is a huge, huge get.
Oh yeah, TJ Haws is better than Nick Emery.
