He is an interesting pickup. His numbers are not particularly impressive, as far as scoring and rebounding go but he seems to have been a late bloomer and if the reports I read are to be believed he has picked up offers from Arizona State and UCLA. Not a great buzz about him for this reason and the fact that we all are hoping/dreaming that Senator Jackson's son will repent and love us like we love him.

Perhaps he is just a great athlete and does a lot of things well that you would only notice only if you watch him play, but even with UCLA being a bit down that is a nice offer. If this is the case then he is a bit of a strange BYU recruit - similar to the Harrison kid who transferred to Clemson. BYU usually recruits kids whose skill levels exceed their athleticism as "upside" is not something bandied about wrt to BYU recruits very often. Hope he does better than Harrison and not get frustrated because he is not equipped to play at the speed BYU plays at early in his career until his skill set reaches that level.

I've seen him a little, and I always thought he was overrated. Very athletic but not very skilled. Doesn't put up big numbers, and a lot of his points come from his height and athleticism inside over smaller players. But with offers from UCLA and ASU and with his athleticism and upside, it's probably a no-brainer scholly offer for BYU.

That seems to have happened with football a lot in the past, but I don't think we've seen it much, if at all with basketball. Eric Mika committed really early before he had many other offers and watched his stock continue to climb way up while waiting to sign with BYU. Emery and TJ Haws committed pretty early and both seemed to hold their ranking quite well also.

Also, one important difference with FJ is that he committed to BYU way early before he had gotten much attention nationally. Baxter committed after an offer from ASU, UCLA and probably more on the way had he waited longer like Dastrup did. I believe there were credible rumors that Arizona had or was about to offer. FJ committed at age 15 when he and his parents didn't realize how good he was. Baxter at this stage I think probably has a better idea of what would have been coming down the road had he waited longer.

A bold experiment but probably worthwhile in the NCAA as long as he can actually gain weight unlike shawn bradley. If he can get in great condition he will be a huge asset.

I'm trying to remember the names of the twin brothers who were on BYU's basketball team back in the early to mid 1990s. They were both around 6'10" but didn't seem to be able to put on any mass.
