BYU recruiting is pretty fun to follow. BYU is and has been in the mix for some great players. We have 3 top 100 players committed. 2 this year and 1 next year. If we get Dastrup, which I expect, that is another. Add Toolson and we have another top 25 class next year. Maybe top 10 if we can land Chapman, though now all the Pac 12 schools and Gonzaga are on him so I think our chances at him have slipped some. He'd be a great get because he'd play 4 years straight."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I also forgot about Dalton Nixon next year. Is he playing a year then going or is he going straight now? He committed before the age change and was planning to play a year then.Originally posted by Surfah View PostBYU recruiting is pretty fun to follow. On missions:
Right now BYU has 3 prospective scholarship players on missions in:
Kyle Collinsworth - year 2 (left May 2011) will return to Scholarship for 13-14
Issac Neilson - Year 2 (left October 2011) will return to scholarship for 14-15
Jordan Chatman - Year 1 (left June/July 2012) will return to scholarship for 14-15
Next year BYU has the following leaving:
Nick Emery - Start on scholarship in 15-16
Jaykob Hartsock - Start on scholarship in 15-16
Braiden Shaw - Start on scholarship in 15-16
BYU has verbals from Dalton Nixon and TJ Haws from the class of '14. They have offers out to Payton Dastrup and Jake Toolsen, both of whom I think BYU will land. If all 4 of them go on missions out of HS, and Eric Mika joins them after his freshman year BYU will have 8 future scholarship players on missions at the same time, with 5 set to take up scholarships in 16-17. That will be enormous turnover. Further, if BYU lands Brekkot Chapman, in addition to Toolsen and Haws, BYU will already have a full roster set for 2016-2017, but there are likely to be some defections I am sure. So for those of you interested here is my projection for your 2016-2017 BYU Cougars:
1.) Nick Emery - PG SO
2.) TJ Haws - SG FR
3.) Jordan Chatman - SF JR
4.) Brekkot Chapman - PF JR
5.) Eric Mika - C SO
6.) Cory Calvert - CG JR
7.) Luke Worthington - PF/C SR
8.) Payton Dastrup - C FR
9.) Jake Toolsen - SF FR
10.) Issac Neilson - C JR
11.) Jaykob Hartsock - PF SO
12.) Dalton Nixon - PF/SF - FR
13.) Braiden Shaw - PF - SODo Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

It might help with Brekkot Chapman if Nixon comes to play as a true freshman at BYU. But my other side thinks the offering of Jake Toolsen is the result of BYU figuring out Brekkot is not heading to the BYU.Originally posted by Surfah View PostI also forgot about Dalton Nixon next year. That is a ways off. However, being the positive thinker I am, I can look forward to watching exciting BB at on TV while in what will otherwise be a boring rest home.

It is kind of crazy to think about. Some of these kids who have to move along but with so many of them planning to serve missions I just don't expect many of them to transfer. It seems to me that kids like Braiden Shaw and Jaykob Hartock will end up staying at BYU even if they never play.Originally posted by byu71 View PostThat is a ways off. The thing I find real concerning is having up to 9 projected scholarship players on missions the 14-15 season:
Nick Emery - Year 2
Cory Calvert - Year 2
Jake Toolsen - Year 1
TJ Haws - Year 1
Payton Dastrup - Year 1
Eric Mika - Year 1
Dalton Nixon - Year 1
Braiden Shaw - Year 2
Jaykob Hartsock - Year 2
That could end up a mess on many levels. I think a good plan is for Dalton Nixon to play as a true freshman in 14-15 to break this up a wee bit.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Remember those golden years in the first few years of the Rose tenure with all the good LDS players not serving missions: Plaisted, Cummard, Tavernari, Fredette, Abouo, and Brandon Davies. Those were the days!Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostIt is kind of crazy to think about. The admin. put some heat on Rose. I heard he was required to read Bronco's book on priorities.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostRemember those golden years in the first few years of the Rose tenure with all the good LDS players not serving missions: Plaisted, Cummard, Tavernari, Fredette, Abouo, and Brandon Davies. Yeah I think Brekkott is rising and attracting too much attention now from other big players. I read the other day he has offers from every Pac 12 school has watched him play except Oregon, UW, and Wazzu. And the ones that have watched him have all offered except USC. Gonzaga too now is making a run at him. Add the Utah schools to the mix and we'll be fortunate to get him. I am not sure offering Jake is a sign we're not going to get Chapman, or just insurance for missing on Ryan."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

If BYU lands Brekkot Chapman, I think that next year would be BYU's best recruiting class ever. The back to back recruiting years would be really impressive and set BYU up very nicely. Chapman should strongly consider BYU as he would likely get to play a lot at BYU early and would have a shot, if he develops, to be a star player for a couple of years.Originally posted by Surfah View PostYeah I think Brekkott is rising and attracting too much attention now from other big players. I think he'd be perfect in Rose's system. He's big and still growing. Can spread the floor with range out to 3 and run.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostIf BYU lands Brekkot Chapman, I think that next year would be BYU's best recruiting class ever. I know he and Nixon are tight and have said they'd like to play together. Maybe Nixon can get Brekkott to Provo and play a year with him before leaving.
I agree with Haws, Nixon, Dastrup, Toolson and Chapman, BYU would have its best recruiting class ever."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

Speaking of which, they are playing at UVU again on Thursday night.Originally posted by Surfah View PostSenior night last night for the BYU JV team. They beat PG handily with Haws leading the way with 21/5/5 with 4 steals. 63-25 after 3.
LP had a 3 on 2 breakaway and Emery did a behind the back pass to Haws who did a one touch alley oop to Mika who slammed it. Brought the house down. 30 seconds later they did the exact same thing. For a HS team they are unreal."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
