I agree. I need to ban myself from this thread.

I'm not suggesting a scenario where we have all the facts and people are ignoring them. I'm suggesting that without the facts it just seems like a short-sighted discussion. His head reaching 2" higher may not have any tangible impact on his play on the floor at all. Without more facts it just seems silly to assume it's a big deal.
      Not so fast.

Assuming typical feature distribution, being 2" taller would allow him to see over more people, potentially improving his court vision.

ha. I guess, though I'm not sure how much that impacts big guys. Actually, I'm not even sure it impacts smaller guys that much either. You do hear people say at times that big guards can see over people, but real court vision is finding passing lanes that are typically at chest level and below. Start thinking about guys with great court vision and how much does height have to do with it? Stockton, Nash, Paul, etc. Then you have guys like Bron and Magic who have great vision and are big, but I don't think their size is what gives them that vision. What really gives them vision is their sense of anticipation. I've watched Stock, Paul, Bron, etc. play live, and what really makes them special is that they see things ahead of everyone else. They see that window or lane that is going to open up before anyone else does, and they put themselves in the position to expose that window while everyone else is trying to catch up. To me that's what court vision is really about, though I guess it never hurts to be able to see over someone.

        • The BYU JV team is now ranked #1 again by MaxPreps. They're sitting at #3 in USA Today's rankings. Interestingly enough in that ranking they have the #1 SOS and #1 computer ranking via Massey. Findlay Prep is #1 and Montverde is #2. Findlay Prep hasn't played nearly as difficult a schedule as LP but they are undefeated including a win over Montverde. I wish that LP got to play them again. Montverde is a great team, but LP just couldn't hit that day. I think LP beats them 7 out of 10 times if they played. I also would love to see LP play Findlay Prep.

Emery sat out the last game because of his ejection against Bingham. Haws and Mika both scored 22 in his absence. Mika has to be moving up in rankings.

That format down in Florida favored a deep team like Montverde also. That would be a lot of fun to see them in an end of the year National Championship tournament.

Just read on CB that in Scout's newest rankings he bumped up to #37 overall and #3 among centers. Not bad at all.

Would that make him the highest profile recruit since Bradley?

Commit? Yes. Recruit? No (Burgess and Parker).

How high was Garner Meads? I just went to TBS and they start with the class of 2002. GM was an MickeyDee's AA and a 4 or 5 star rated recruit.

I just realized that there were more years between EM and GM than there were between Shawn Bradley and GM. Time really starts to pick up speed the older you get.

Garner Meads was higher by most people rating back then. RSCI which averages recruiting rankings had Garner at #31. Dave Telep ranked him #34.

                      • WTF were people thinking with the Meads rankings? I never even saw a brief glimpse of a player that could be construed as a McDonald's All-American.

Agreed. IIRC, he was getting about 15 and 7 in HS, very thin, not great defensively. A solid HS player, but not much more.

His senior year he averaged 21 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6 assists. That is pretty impressive. Especially the assists given his size. He had big time offers.

                            • Jake Toolson got offered last night by BYU. If we get him, Dastrup and with TJ in the bag we're going to have another top 25 recruiting class next year.

I saw glimpses, but he injured his back and never got healthy.

Trent Plaisted was also ranked very high, no?

Edit, rivals had him 140 overall, but also shows him with a 35 ACT, which can't be right.
