The truth is Larry K thought his program was too good for this kid. Oops.
This seems to be the year he was hoping to transition from building with JC guys to high rated HS players, but it hasn't panned out. Childs is now the 3rd highest rated guy on this list behind Frank Jackson and Zach Collins. He didn't start off ranked that high, but Utah didn't show enough interest. Rose was able to see his potential and he has really come on as a senior.
Jayce Johnson is a good pickup here, but he won't be as good as Poeltl who is probably gone.
Yes, in the November signing period BYU signed Childs, Baxter and Harding. Baxter and Harding will go straight on missions. Chlids will play next year.
Childs is not 6'8 he is closer to 6'5. But he is a great get for BYU.
That's interesting - I had always heard 6'8", but even ESPN lists him at just 6'6". the way he gets on top of the rim so easily in his videos I never had any reason to think he wasn't at least 6'8". I need to go watch him in person.
We won't know for sure until he stands next to Jay.
I know you guys rely on me for this. I don't recall standing next to him. I saw him play a game his sophomore year. He was taller than our tallest guy that was about 6'5. Don't know if he's grown since then. I would have said 6'6ish then. But everyone is bb is listed two inches taller, so him listed at 6'8 is probably fine.

Not everyone is listed taller. The NBA measured Brandon Davies at 6-10 instead of the 6-9 that BYU had him.
I saw him not that long ago. He is my height.bigger than 6'5" but not quite 6'6". He will try to play 4 for us and develop range to become a 3. He looks good. I thunk Haws will have a larger impact.
Two weeks ago his high school coach said he might be 6'6 in shoes.
I went to the Bingham game tonight. Standing next to Fehoko, he was about an inch and a half taller, so 6'6 would be about right. a good 2+ inches taller than Simi at the shoulder, but he has an unusually short neck, so he's not that tall, but has long arms and plays big. He was pretty passive tonight, but when he got it on the low block, they simply had no chance. Just a beast on the boards and has a beautiful hook shot.
