      Registered. Not active. Is there some sort of letter-writing process I need to go through to change that?

                No. They need an ecclesiastical endorsement which just means they talk to their own ecclesiastical leader and commit to the honor code. Or if they don't have one of those they can talk to someone in the student life office on campus who talks with them about it and signs the form, or something like that. There is no requirement for non-LDS students to attend a church.

                    Haha. Beat me to it. There is no doubt whatsoever that LAU would go nuts if BYU were involved.

                    A few weeks ago he was whining on FB about some article in the BYU student paper being inappropriate. I am not kidding.
