"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Don’t know. His defense is so bad, I’m not surprised he’s spending time on the bench.Originally posted by SteelBlue View PostDid Catchings get hurt? I would’ve thought he’d see the floor for several minutes with that second unit.

Well, that was kinda anticlimactic. In the best of ways.
A couple of Kansas fans above us threw in the towel and took off at 14 mins left in the second half.
Team is gelling and so deep. Wild that Boscovic and Trey are getting real minutes this late in the season.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

What a beautiful game. Hope they can bottle that and take it with them to Tucson."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

BYU crushes blue blood Kansas by 34 in their first visit to the ROC since 1960. I loved how we came out swinging right at tip off and didn't let the foot off the gas. But, let's be real, Kansas was bad. I mean real bad. They actually had some decent looks, but could not hit crap. I've complained about our defensive rotations many times this season, but we've never been as bad as Kansas was this game. After Knell has hit 3 3Ps, you still can't find him? You're that afraid of Hall driving to the paint? Dickinson might have gotten 14 rebounds, but he gave up several offensive boards, including to Foos, who is like, what, a foot shorter than him? I really loved the low number of overall fouls (just 19 for both teams combined for the entire game), I didn't see many missed calls and it allowed the flow of the game to continue. And I freakin love that Self used up all of his timeouts with like 14 minutes left in the game. To his credit I didn't see him yelling at either his players or the refs. I like him. Catchings did get into the game for the last two minutes. He was either sick as someone else suggested, or has been relegated to playing with the walk-ons...
Player of the game goes to Keba Keita, for the second straight game. What has he been eating for breakfast? He is becoming dominant on defense, and used more on offense. He had the best PER and DRtg. Everybody that played at least 12 minutes had a Defensive Rating well below 100. Great team defense and Keba is leading the charge. Saunders had the best GSc and I think he's becoming everyone's favorite player from the past 10 years. Great inside and outside game. Mag had the best TS% and ORtg. When he's not fumbling the ball, he can hit the corner 3 and drive strong to the hoop.
The only player that really didn't play well (Baker) didn't qualify as he missed my 15 minute mark by just 1 minute. So Egor Demin gets the Struggled to Perform award. He didn't play horrible, just the worst of all 15+ minute players. Still shooting too many jumpers. I think he dribbles at the top of the key too much. I want him to be more decisive. Swing the ball or drive hard to the lane. He had the worst PER, GSc, TS%, and ORtg. Saunders had the worst DRtg, but it was still under 100.
BYU is now 18-8 (9-6) - I honestly didn't think we'd be 3 games over .500 in conference at any point this season! - and we are now #31 in Kenpom and were #36 in NET coming into today. Kansas is now #22 in Kenpom (I get that no ranking system is perfect, but really?) and was #15 in NET prior to today. As a home game this is a quality Q1 win. We're looking less like a bubble team and more like a solid at-large right now. Up next is a trip to Arizona, who is 18-8 (12-3) and #10 in Kenpom and was #9 in NET. Let's get another Q1 win while we're on this roll!

ESPN on BYU’s NCAA tournament prospects:

BYU Cougars (86%)
BYU's dominant win over Kansas boosted its tourney chances by 10 percentage points in the ESPN model. The composite odds are not as bullish on the Cougars, but there is no denying this was their best win of the season. Their predictive metrics are all in the top 35, and they are now 4-5 against BPI top-50 foes. BYU ranks seventh in the NET among teams from the Big 12, a conference that figures to earn seven or eight bids. And it won't have to wait too long to make another strong impression on the committee: The Cougars travel to face an Arizona team that is a No. 3 seed in Joe Lunardi's latest Bracketology. (Updated Feb. 18 at 11:20 p.m.)
Next game: Saturday at Arizona, 10 p.m. (ESPN)

I have always liked Bill Self. His praising of the BYU team and the Marriott Center crowd/experience after the game won me over even more. The voice of the Jayhawks was interviewed by Wrubell before the game yesterday and he talked about how special the MC was and how BYU was by far his favorite new addition to the conference. It's nice to be wanted for a change.
I took my daughter to the game. I have written elsewhere about the trivial but still challenging (to me) reality of being a sports nut and wannabe athlete and having two kids who choose or are unable to play or be interested in sports. My daughter had a blast last night and kept talking about the ROC and how fun it would be to be a student and go to games some day. leaving the game she said something like "I just really like being united in a sports community. It feels so good to all be cheering together for a common goal." I don't know what 11-year old talks like that about sports but I'll take it!
