  • BYU loses to Providence by 19. If you had told me that BYU would win the offensive rebounds battle by 21-2 and the TO battle 5-10, I would have said that BYU would have won by 19. Does hot shooting happen? Sure. But our defense did suck. And I put a lot of blame on KY for sticking with that awful zone defense. Rotations were constantly late, shooters were constantly left wide open. On multiple occasions Catchings rotated away from the player with the ball resulting in an easy basket for Providence. And our shot selection? Holy hell. Floaters from past the FT line with no arc. Falling away or drifting sideways jumpers. I want to see more man defense and more post play. Why did Foos only play 14 minutes? Ketia was playing well, but we desperately needed some post play to help with our woeful shooting selection Keita can't create his own shots. Foos can. The best thing KY did was to pull most of our starters; that's totally an NBA thing to do, lol.

Dawson Baker gets our Best Performer award, for the second time. Him and Knell have gotten a lot of fan criticism this season, but they were our best shooters today. Baker was the only player who really could score worth anything this game. GSc also agreed that he was our best player. Saunders got the best DRtg, but I'm honestly surprised our DRtg scores were as low as they were. Knell had the best TS% and ORtg. Going 3/4 on 3Ps helps. On days like this, he should have shot more and played more minutes.

Demin Egor gets the Struggled to Perform award, for just the first time. But oh boy did he struggle. The word is out that you just have to be physical on him. He was clearly frustrated and was throwing up some of worst shots I've seen in a while. Hey, if these horrible 9 shots didn't go in, I'm going to try another horrible shot! I seriously don't think a single one of his shots today had a decent chance of going in. At least he made his FTs, that kept him from having the worst TS%. GSc says that Hall was our worst player. He was bad too, and he fouled out, which GSc penalizes him for, but even though he had the worst TS%, his shot selection honestly wasn't as bad as Egor's. Hall was simply cold. He also had the worst ORtg, but again, I'm wondering how any of our scores were as high as they were. Knell had the worst DRtg, but you honestly could have put any of our players here as they were all horrible on defense.

BYU is now 6-2 and #47 in Kenpom and coming into today was #48 in NET. Providence is now #77 in Kenpom and was #104 in NET prior to today. This is most likely a Q2 loss. This was our only game of the week so I've also updated the PER season summary. Up next is Fresno St., who is 3-4 and #267 in Kenpom and #248 in NET. It's a home game, making this a Q4 game.

    • Well, we know what this team currently is-a work in progress.

      • BYU drops to 69 on NET, but there is always a lot of movement on it this early in the season. That's why they don't release it until a month into the season. Providence moved up to 81 from 104, making it almost a q1 game.

        • Providence will end up being a decent team. Probably Q1 now that their best player is back.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Didn't expect the decision to happen so quickly.

I was thinking the same thing, but the 24/7 Crystal Ball guy, who had taken away his prediction for Dybantsa a few days ago, now has him back at 100% BYU. His accuracy percentage for 2025 is currentlly 100% (19/19) and 93% (228/244) lifetime. But his confidence leavel is only 6, so there's that. These top recruit discussions that involve BYU come from an alternate universe than the one I grew up with.

I'm just being a pessimist to gird my loins from the impending disappointment.

Has being a BYU fan taught you this, or just life in general?

I don't have anything to compre him to, but that just seems like an amazing accuracy percentage, crazy good!

Definitely being a BYU fan. This year's football season was a white knuckle ride up until the end. I kept waiting for that soul-crushing early season loss or two that would ruin everything and it didn't happen until the end.
