I don't really follow college basketball at all but after a couple of comments about the "meltdown" of BYU's bb program from Co workers and seeing a couple of KSL articles about it, how serious is the situation in Provo?

I don't know what to think about this. I tend to prefer continuity, but I can see that things are changing.
Baxter - for three years we have planned for him to play a part, only to have early season-ending injuries each season. How can you continue to plan for that? I hope wherever he goes he stays healthy.
Lohner - he brought so much awesome drama with his transfer to BYU; it was awesome. His shooting is atrocious and his abilities don't seem to be matching his seeming physical potential. Maybe this was just a sophomore slump. Wished he had stuck around, but watching those 3-point clankers and non-clankers got tiresome.
George - wth? I like him, although he was a turnover machine whenever he put the ball on the floor.

Right now I'm a 2 or 3 on the 1-10 scale. Lohner is the only one that was a major impact player. George had his moments, but Baxter was injury plagued. Erickson and Hansen rarely played so they may or may not big losses. Who is the sixth player that is transferring?
At this point I'm more interested in seing who the replacements are and whether they will be an upgrade; I suspect that for the most part they will be. Burgess is a loss because of his recruiting ability. I'm not sure if Peery, Daniels, or another possibility outside of Madsen has the name recognition and connection with LDS high school athletes the way Burgess seemed to have.
On another point, a co-worker said today that Haarms was way over-rated and that it was a mistake to get rid of Lee. In other words, Haarms should not have been signed, and Lee should have been developed more. Your thoughts?Last edited by jadesroom; 04-19-2022, 05:48 PM.Comment

It's not possible to build a great program and have to change out the team every season. Sheesh. Just look at the programs that succeed and the ones that don't. Key player transfers are program killers. Yes, the rules are different now.
