  • Now that I've pulled back from the edge and thought about this...

I'm not all that depressed anymore. Here is what Utah's roster will be like next year.

    Returning
    David Foster
    Shawn Glover
    Jace Tavita
    Jason Washburn
    Jay Watkins
    Chris Hines

    Recruits
    Preston Guiot
    JJ O'Brien
    Dominique Lee (if he qualifies)
    Anthony DiMaria

We can get long range shooting from Hines, Guiot and DiMaria. O'Brien, Lee and Glover can give us what Carlon gave us and everyone else improves with an offseason work out. I don't honestly think we'll be worse and its quite likely we'll be better.

Things are getting so bad that you either make the decision to fire him now or you pretty much have to commit 2 years to him to let him dig himself out of this hole. It isn't like it is going to get any worse than this. With Giacoletti you pulled the trigger because you knew it would get a lot worse, I don't think it can get worse right now with Boylen because he is at the very worst a competent defensive coach and may be more than that.

I would lean towards giving him a chance to prove he can fix this mess he created but I would also be perfectly fine with firing him right now and handing this thing over to Tommy Connor or Donny Daniels.

Go get 'em Jim, you have 24 months to prove you are the man for the Ute job. I really hope you are successful. I have no expectations for Ute basketball for the next 2 years, I'm just going to enjoy the watching a train wreck or enjoy watching Boylen prove he can build something out of the ashes that is the Ute basketball program. Either way it will be fun now that I've established no expectations.

Its hilarious that MP Funk is advocating the hiring of a Gonzaga Assistant to solve Utah's Hoops issues. HEHEHEHEHEHEHE.

Luckily he had enough time working with Majerus and Ben Howland to remove any of the stench of his short time with the Zags.

Since Few believes so much in Giacoletti's coaching ability why didn't he hire him as his top assistant?

As it turns out Tommy Lloyd is the top assistant. Daniels also hates Majerus now and the two never speak.

The question remains why not hire Giacoletti as the top assistant if he believes so much in his coaching ability.

Lloyd has been on the staff much much longer.

I would just like to establish some common ground with Commie Crim and state that North Carolina BBQ is vastly superior to Texas BBQ. Also, to clarify further I am talking about Eastern Carolina BBQ. I just don't understand why anyone would use a non-vinegar based sauce.

Well for that I'll simply end any battle here and simply say I hope we're both cheering the Utes two years from now.

                    1. Why would Connor, Daniels or anyone else want the job knowing they only have three years to get into the NCAA 2nd round, especially considering the mess they would be inheriting?

                    2. I don't understand how any Ute fan could possibly enjoy watching Utah basketball become a train wreck.

Because Connor is a Utah man and it is a huge step up. Daniels is also a Utah man and he has failed at being a head coach once before, so if he wants another shot he has to take an iffy situation. A new coach would also get more than 3 years to fix things. The only reason that Boylen getting fired after 3 years is even an option is because he has basically burned the thing to the ground at the end of his 3rd year with bad recruiting and players leaving.

Sounds like wishful thinking to me.

You really think that Tommy Connor is going to turn down a head coaching gig at his alma mater to stay at Westminster?

If his alma mater is a freaking disaster zone, and the fans and administration appear to have unreasonable expectations as to how soon he would have to turn things around (his two immediate predecessors both only got three years) and what such a turnaround would mean (NCAA 2nd round), then yes.

Giacoletti got exactly what he deserved and if the Utes fired Boylen now it would be because he lost the whole roster. This isn't a case of an unreasonable expectation, unless you consider retaining more than 25% of your non-graduating players unreasonable.
