  • Remember all the hand-wringing that happened after Louks transferred?

    That turned out pretty well.

    I'm not worried yet.

I have said that the loss of Jackson was unfortunate. Jackson has done all he needed to do to convince me he was a great kid and a very good college basketball player, and I lay his departure squarely on Majerus and call it a bad thing. Still, one transfer that hurts in fifteen years in a program that lost a ton of players is telling. It tells you that the current departures likely do not matter (we already know they all suck, right?).

Fortunately, Jackson did come back and contribute to something special. Winning an outright conference championship by as substantial margin, finishing top 15 and making the Sweet 16 by beating a team as good as Oklahoma was is something to remember fondly. I know you would regard such a BYU accomplishment as special, particularly given how beaten down are your expactations.

Hand-wringing from who? Fellow delusional ute fans? I was praying that Louks would be named Utahs starting QB, anyone that has ever watched a down of football could tell that kid was not good. Yet I remember so many fans on this board and others arguing with me that he was going to be special because he could run fast.

Same reason ute fans should be praying Riley Nelson wins the QB job at BYU. He is better than Louks but the fact that he has zero ability to throw the ball down the field does not bode well for BYU.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

I won't argue that last point.

But you honestly think that Jackson's departure was the only one that hurt? How can you justify that? You don't think all of the transfers impacted the program in ways like recruiting?

And it sounds a bit like you're equating Boylen with Majerus there. Since the players Majerus lost 'didn't matter' to you then these players that Boylen is losing likely won't either. Good to know Boylen isn't to blame for 4 transfers in one year!

This debate raged for years on UF.net. SU's views on the issue are fixed. He may be right - after all, most of us know nothing when it comes right down to it. My own view is that over time the recruiting misses and departures hurt the program.

Louks will intercept whoever your QB is this year...it will be epic!

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

We know that the ones who left were not worth a tinker's dam (3D, tinker's damn?) where they went.

Yes, I have been consistent in my position on this issue for many years. Many freshmen don't pay out everywhere, especially below the top tier programs like Duke.

I could care less. I don't get into a lot of hand ringing on the way people right.

Actually, I was interested in what he could do because everything I had heard was that he had a much stronger arm than Johnson. Obviously, you need to be able to do much more than run fast and throw hard to play QB. He obviously didn't have it upstairs, didn't work hard, and ran off when confronted by it all.

I haven't paid much attention to what is going on down south. From what you're writing, it sounds like a choice between a running QB who can't throw, and a freshman. Ouch. Could be a bumpy year.

I think that if you search you will see that I posted maybe about 14 months ago in response to a rumor that Louks woudl transfer I said I hoped it was true because it woudl mean that Cain or Wynn were good prospects.
