There's more to what's going on in politics than meets the eye. Turns out all our problems are class-based.

Except for a Catholic (with Mormon) strain of educated elite crackpots, the alt-right is pretty much lower class whites who have seen good working class jobs disappear.

Whites on the radical left are educated elites and the poor are on the radical right.

Bernie Sanders correctly identified the crux of what ails us, though he's personally deficient and his solutions are questionable.

Our homeless mess is also a manifestation of this problem.

Some here are emblematic of the problem as they see it. Rich white elite in a big city who sends his kids off to become management consultants who rig the system to take all the money, and couldn't care less about the working class's economic catastrophe and dying off prematurely from opioids, drink and despair.

Did you catch the recent Ezra Klein podcast with Reihan Salam from the Manhattan Institute? They covered each of these points. Yes, the left has infiltrated/taken over the elites which might seem like a good thing, but it has made them grossly out of touch with most of America. Hence the constant blundering.

One of the most stark examples of leftist elites being out of touch is the ongoing use of the word "latinx" by the white, educated woke crowd. 95% of hispanics hate it, but they keep on using it anyway. And they wonder why hispanics are increasingly trending conservative/republican.

If a primary was held today, Mitt would almost certainly not survive. A lot can happen in 2 years though. I do wonder how the Utah Dems will handle Mitt since their strategy now appears to be focused on helping non Democratic moderates. Could there be a successful campaign to register as GOP for the 2024 primary and vote for MItt?

The Ezra Klein podcast with the socialist who founded Jacobin (what a terrible name for a magazine, regardless of your politics; name it after mass murderers)--they agree that radical left woke identity politics is the reason economic leftism has stagnated politically, aand it's hilarious how hard they try not to say it just that way. Many euphemisms like "academic jargon that turns off the labor class."

Once Lee gets to go on the attack, it will be a different story. I'm not sure McMullen will have a satisfactory response to the accusations that he may caucus with the Dems. This state won't take that chance.

I know someone who is in a leadership position for the United Utah (is that the name?) party. They held their caucus online, and I was curious, so I tuned in for a good chunk of it.

McMullen's selling point was to refer to Manchin and Sinema. He essentially said that they are two of the most powerful people in DC right now, because both sides give them attention and listen to them to get their vote. His approach is going to be to say that Utah will have more power and will be better represented by someone who isn't calling the White House like a puppy on a leash asking what to say and do at every turn, but instead having someone representing Utah's interests.

It will be interesting - I don't recall the details on specific policy, but he definitely aligns more with the GOP and they would be dumb not to pull him into their caucus.

My plan is to vote for whichever of his challengers is polling better going into the last week - and still assume Lee will win, so McMullin gets my vote during the General, I guess.

But Manchin and Sinema caucus with the Democrats. Who would McMullen caucus with? If he doesn't caucus with anyone, then to Utah Republicans that is no different than caucusing with Dems. The margin in the Senate will be razor thin again. I think this will ultimately be Lee's best and moat effective argument.

Sorry if I didn't make it clear. McMullen wasn't saying he has the same position on policy and politics as Manchin and Sinema. He was saying that he would be like them as far as not just voting the party line, so both sides would be coming to him to collaborate.

As I said - he aligns most closely with the GOP platform, so that is where he would attempt to caucus. I think they would be dumb not to want to include him - particularly if they are courting his vote on legislation.
