You might be on to something. Let's give Joe Rogan every possible drug and see what it does to him.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

random hillbillies taking otc sheep dewormer already studied and shown to be ineffective in clinical settings are not “looking at other ways to take out the virus.” they are scientifically illiterate stooges whose smooth brains have been poisoned by personalities like joe rogan, who will survive not because they may take ivermectin but because they are in better shape than the hyper obese t2d yokel taking this shit and because they have the resources to marshal around the clock care from teams of doctors who can give throw every resource in the world at their case.Originally posted by swampfrog View Post
Now I think your missing the point. I agree with that objection, it's not a substitution for a vaccine and arguing that it is causes problems. I don't agree with its classification as a horse dewormer. To take a drug that is effective against parasitic disease and wonder what else it might be useful for however is just normal science.
There's no clinical trial evidence that it's helpful, but shouldn't we being looking at other ways to take out the virus?Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

But it is a 'horse dewormer'. It's also a human dewormer. Is that phrase bothering you? The catch-all 'worm' phrase covers a host of infections, in both humans and animals.Originally posted by swampfrog View Post
Whether or not effective against COVID is a different question than whether its only function is as a horse dewormer.

Framing matters. Often more than the facts. Calling it a "horse dewormer", while true, isn't the whole story and frames it unnecessarily negatively. If the only exposure someone had to Ivermectin is "horse dewormer", would one come to the following conclusion?Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

So yes, the phrase is bothering me. If it is a human dewormer, or even better, human miracle drug for parasitic infection. Why was that phrase not selected over horse dewormer? It's just as truthful is it not?The discoveries of Avermectin and Artemisinin have revolutionized therapy for patients suffering from devastating parasitic diseases. Campbell, Ōmura and Tu have transformed the treatment of parasitic diseases. The global impact of their discoveries and the resulting benefit to mankind are immeasurable.
One should also note this from the article linked above:
It seems just normal practice to examine treatments in other areas to see if they can be adapted. At that time, Tu Youyou in China turned to traditional herbal medicine to tackle the challenge of developing novel Malaria therapies. From a large-scale screen of herbal remedies in Malaria-infected animals, an extract from the plant Artemisia annua emerged as an interesting candidate. However, the results were inconsistent, so Tu revisited the ancient literature and discovered clues that guided her in her quest to successfully extract the active component from Artemisia annua. Tu was the first to show that this component, later called Artemisinin, was highly effective against the Malaria parasite, both in infected animals and in humans (Figure 4). Artemisinin represents a new class of antimalarial agents that rapidly kill the Malaria parasites at an early stage of their development, which explains its unprecedented potency in the treatment of severe Malaria.

I’m not sure how much more simply I can state this, but the great irony is being afraid of our Covid vaccines because they “aren’t sufficiently tested” and then resorting to a dewormer that is completely unproven against Covid."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? SF, I'd take the 'L' here. No one is claiming that this isn't a good drug for what it is used for. No one is besmirching a great drug by giving it a bad connotation. It's OK to go along with social media, call it a horse dewormer, and laugh at/feel pity to those who would think that an anti-parasitic drug would be so much more effective at fighting COVID that they'd ingest horse paste over getting the vaccine.Originally posted by swampfrog View Post

I have an innate dislike for the framing of things this way. I'll accept the label "over reactor". I don't think it's useful. The people that need to be reached are going to read "horse dewormer" or "horse paste", google the drug and find that was developed for humans, is widely used (in prescribed doses) throughout the world and immediately default to their previous position that these people are all liars and I can therefore continue to believe what I always have.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

This shouldn't be an either/or proposition. I want people all over the planet looking for the maximum number of vectors possible to combat this thing.

they are literally taking horse dewormer from veterinary supply outlets. why is this confusing? they are not setting up clinical studies in their basements, they’re taking literal livestock medicine for which there is zero clinical evidence of efficacy against covid because joe rogan and similar dipshits tell them to.Originally posted by swampfrog View Post

and why is it the worlds responsibility to save the illiterate from themselves? fuck them, and fuck the people that promote this nonsense. facts don’t care about your feelings, as the intellectual standard for much of what you peddle loves to say. if anybody wants to advance the cause of science through experimental therapeutics, they should go for it. but don’t do that instead of taking proven therapeutics and then stake a claim on a finite pool of hospital resources.Te Occidere Possunt Sed Te Edere Non Possunt Nefas Est.

Ted, my good man, I've often wondered how you find the time to post so many tweets and links, and have concluded it's because you usually don't read anything other than the (almost always) misleading title. For the benefit of those who actually care about the facts, as the underlying story points out, Ivermectin is sometimes being prescribed for immigrants/refugees from impoverished areas because they often bring with them intestinal parasites. It is NOT being prescribed (indeed, it is proscribed by legitimate science) for COVID-related issues. Also, it should be noted that the recommended dose for parasitic infection (again, not for COVID or any other virus) is set for humans; using Ivermectin in doses or quality intended for veterinary use is strongly advised against. The CDC's recommendations (and those of several state agencies) are intended to save people, unlike superficial and misleading tweets and quips that do not.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View Post
