Hang in there! How is it going?Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I never got your opinion on the NPR piece I posted:Originally posted by SeattleUte View PostLost opportunities, bullshit. Not a word in there about what those were. What does the New York Times expect should have happened? The problem is human nature. California has remained closed tight as a drum and had 5,600 new cases yesterday. Now we're all Sweden, so predictable, but with wrecked economies and destroyed lives of people who never really were at risk.
Meanwhile, Cuomo and Michigan's governor were sending sick patients back to nursing homes until about a month ago.
This article, by the way, is an opinion piece and shouldn't be the lead story on the front page.
How good do you think the economy would have been doing now without the lockdown?

It sucks, but I'm getting by; I wish I had been in better shape to start out, but I don't know if that has any effect on the symptoms. I'm on day 8 of symptoms, so I'm thinking I should be on the mend any second. Honestly, the most frustrating part has been the loss of olfactory senses. It has completely zapped any appetite I may have, and that tends to create wooziness and a pit in my stomach. I was back to muscle/joint aches this morning so I took acetaminophen and that took away the pain, but gave me a bit of a stomach ache. I'm pretty over it, but I have at least another week or so of quarantine before I'll take the test again and get back to work.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostHang in there! The lockdown caused a lot of that decline. Getting demand from wealthier people to return will take a while because of Covid, habit, and it’s not that fun to go out right now, apparently unless you’re under 35. But this does nothing to support the lockdown.Originally posted by beefytee View PostWhen a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Hope you feel better!Originally posted by Commando View PostOh before I forget-- I tested very, very negatively. I got a very negative result. Negative meaning a positive for covid.
Didn’t a lot of states like Utah and Arizona shut down way too early when there was very little disease? Seems like we paid a huge price just to delay the inevitable for a few months. Not worth it.

Don’t bother. The fact that SU would interpret that essay as some sort of vindication for his takes on this pandemic shows why he is the king of cherry picking and bias confirmation. He can manufacture a SUwish from virtually anything. It’s pathological.Last edited by Jeff Lebowski; 06-27-2020, 05:41 PM."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

Man, what a dipshit...
A Piute County commissioner likened Utah Gov. Gary Herbert to Adolf Hitler after he approved requests Thursday from two counties to require masks in public, saying the community should prepare to offer a “Heil Herbert” salute.
“Hang on friends, it won’t be long before you are required to do a Sieg Heil Salute to Herbert,” Commissioner Darin Bushman tweeted Thursday night. “Welcome to Utah now extend your right arm straight at 45 degrees keeping your hand parallel to your arm and offer your ‘Heil Herbert.’”

I think the response was completely inappropriate merely because we were unprepared to perform mass testing and contact tracing, so we just had to act like EVERYBODY had it. Now in a perfect world that would have worked like a charm because if you are isolating it doesn't spread, and it would have just pinched itself off within the infected households. But that was just too tall of an order for the population at large. And I don't think everybody getting it was inevitable, but it was the inevitable result of our national response. You will have to check with SU to see if you can trust this NYT article, but according to it 43% of all deaths and 11% of all cases in the US were in nursing homes. So that’s a lot of cases that you have to account for if you’re trying to isolate just the most vulnerable.Originally posted by dabrockster View PostThere are many factors and you point out one. This is very true and why I think masks should be required to help reduce this. I do not understand the complaint about this..
An additional question is, are all the positives asymptotic or symptomatic. Meaning, are they actually contagious? This will determine the spread.
One thing to keep in mind is that even under lockdown, 80% of our deaths were elderly in nursing homes. They were not out in the public so is it really a threat to the elderly who live in the community? And the other 10% or above were those in our prisons. We had a major outbreak in a few.
Community-wise, only 5% accounted for the deaths we have.
It will be interesting to monitor to see if our hospitalizations and ICU’s increase. That has not been the case as of yet. In fact, the numbers today were lower..

I think you are spot on. Texas is going through the same thing. We didn’t have a first wave and now we are opening up and everyone thought it was over only to get slapped with a second (or first) wave. Thankfully now people are required to wear masks. The spike has forced the governor to eat crow and support mandatory mask orders in the big cities. We won’t lock down a second time, which is good and I hope people take it more seriously this time.Originally posted by Commando View PostI think the response was completely inappropriate merely because we were unprepared to perform mass testing and contact tracing, so we just had to act like EVERYBODY had it. Hope you fully recover soon. At least you’ll have some immunity for a while, which has to be some good news.
