Honest and passionate folks can strongly disagree regarding spiritual matters, so it's imperative that we not allow such considerations to infringe on the real happiness of real people.

I have some spare change under my 401(k)'s seat cushions so I think I'm going to buy a couple of ETFs after the market closes today. Worst case, this post may provide some amusement a few months from now. But I didn't mortgage the farm!Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI should take out a mortgage and put some money in. It's interesting how little this market drop has bothered me. After the market break in '87 and the dark days of autumn '08, I'm almost immune to market panic.

In the past ten years, many new coronaviruses have been identified. They infect a wide range ofhosts from mammals to birds. Closely related coronaviruses have been identified in distantly relatedanimals suggesting recent interspecies jumps. Coronavirus diversity is fundamentally due to the lowfidelity of the virally encoded RNA-dependent-RNA-polymerase that generates around 10−3 to 10−5substitutions per site per year. The large size and replication strategy of the coronavirus genome alsoallows for frequent homologous recombination, a process that enables exchange of genetic materialduring co-infection. Persistent infection leads to the accumulation of adaptive mutations. Theconsequences of coronavirus species barrier jumping can be devastating and result in severe diseaseand mortality, as exemplified by the SARS outbreak. The spike protein is the major determinant of coronaviruses tropism. Modification of the spike can alter cell and tissue tropism and, in some cases, inassociation with other viral and host factors, may lead to change of virus pathogenicity. Zoonosesconstitute a real risk for human health. In the past, coronaviruses have often demonstrated theirpropensity to infect new hosts, highlighting the capacity for viral evolution and the need forsurveillance. Great progress has been made in the understanding of spike protein functions, however itremains impossible to predict the effect of mutations that a virus might acquire."Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. They would probably close down the deportation courts, but we know that those operations are a top priority for this administration.
Oh- this probably bears mentioning. So last week some of the immigration courts were posting CDC posters about preventing the spread of covid-19. There was an order 'from the top' to remove them. WTF? This is like a really bad movie where the villain is way too over the top and obvious.

March Madness cancelled.
NCAA cancels remaining winter and spring championships
March 12, 2020 4:07pmToday, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men’s and women’s 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities.

That leaves tons of athletes spinning in the wind. Baseball championships are canceled, but what about their seasons? Are they going to give eligibility back to seniors who lose a whole year, or who might have just started their seasons? If my college moves to online, will coaches still make the athletes be here to train and play in games with no hope of championships?Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostMarch Madness cancelled.

These monkeys are exhibiting similar behavior to that found in Costco and WalMart patrons during the past couple weeks with regard to toilet paper, except the monkeys are more evolved and fighting over a necessity.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”
