      Very well done.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think they have specifically addressed why they didn't do it last week. I'm just noting that it has the appearance of a political play, when it didn't have to.

The House GOP's repeated claims of this further dividing the country is utter nonsense. So after 5 years of accusing the left of being snowflakes and not putting facts before feelings, the GOP stance is we can't do this because our base are snowflakes and puts feelings before facts? How interesting.
I think they were hoping either Pence and the cabinet would do something or Trump would resign. I'd rather they give him the boot...

        • Mind blowing that there are members of congress being investigated for being part of the planning of it. Unreal. If true they need to go to federal prison not just for years, but decades.

If the Dems truly believed this was an immediate national security issue, then why take so many days off while their members in the House went home? And why waste time on the 25th amendment nonsense (25th amendment was not intended to be used to get rid of an incompetent president, don't open this Pandora's box for a misuse of the amendment). Now it is easier for the GOP to dismiss this as just partisan grandstanding. The Dems are less evil than the GOP but they aren't a serious party by any means.
Uh, come on after the capitol invasion you've had state lawmakers participate in, allegations that some congress people helped plan the event and took the rebels on special tours, you'e being quite nitpicky. They gave Pence a chance to let his testicles drop and invoke the 25th. They are a far more serious party.
Also, except for Amash, the "Libertarian" wing of the GOP seems to have gone all in for Trump. I'm curious if I'm missing anyone aside from Amash.

I hope if the story has legs hope Biggs gets exco'd

              • I'm sure some of you already read this article about what was going on in the White House and among Trump's team while everything was going down. It has some interesting things in it, none of which make Trump look good.

To me, the most mind-blowing thing I learned was that when Trump released his video ("We love you. You’re very special. You’ve seen what happens. You see the way others are treated that are so bad and so evil. I know how you feel"), they actually did three takes, and this was the one they felt was MOST palatable. That's right, there were two versions of this speech that were even WORSE than the one we all saw.

Just to clarify, when you say you hope "they give him the boot," do you mean Pence or Congress?

He was afraid that his calming words made him look weak. Unbelievable. There are no words for me to express how disgusted I am with this putz. Again, shocking, but not surprising.

Congress. I agree w Pence that the 25th really doesn’t apply to a case like this.

Make no mistake, I am not making an argument that the two party's are equivelant. I'm not making a false equivelancy. In no way can an honest argument be made that says the two parties are just as destructive as the other. I have made this argument in the past, and in the past I genuinely beleive they were equally terrible. But under Trump that isn't the case anymore.

But the 25th amendment was intended to remedy medical incapacitation, not moral fitness. A lack of mental fitness has always been able to be dealt with by impeachment. I dont think its a good idea to blur the line between the two processes when the majority in the Congress can make it happen. The process is important.

In terms of the libertarian wing of the GOP, the big 3 were Rand Paul, Thomas Massie, and Justin Amash. Amash had to leave the party. Rand thought he could get Trumpy in the name of libertarianism to get some legislation passed. Not a great return on investment there. And Massie has took on the language of Trump and not pushed back against him nearly enough, but has stayed a renegade a bit. But yeah, the libertarian wing is non existent now.

Thank you for your response. I wish Amash had run for reelection.

Pipe dream, and a weird thing to “hope” happens to someone.

I wager there are few people on the planet who loathe Trump more than I, but the purpose of the 25th amendment is to ensure leadership when the President is incapacitated. That's not the case here, and the amendment should not be repurposed to remove a President who is unfit to hold the office. It would set a dangerous precedent. The impeachment process is the appropriate process here.

Prediction: A year from now, Mo Brooks will not be a United States Senator.
