How on earth can they get away with such blatant violations of the Hatch Act? Can't a judge put an end to this nonsense?

Great question. Past administrations may have bumped up against the law's guardrails but Trump seems intent on smashing through those guardrails, likely asking, "So, what are they going to do?" Others have said that prosecuting Trump for violation of other laws only made him stronger, but what is to be done? Ignore it? I guess the dems could just take note and do the same thing when they come into power.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHow on earth can they get away with such blatant violations of the Hatch Act? As for the Hatch Act, I guess someone needs to file an injunction and see where that goes. I gotta hope that the ultimate rebuke will come from the voters despite Trump's attempts to rig upcoming elections.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Oh, you were serious?
The Office of Special Counsel prosecutes violations, which are adjudicated by the Merit Systems Protections Board. (Penalties for violations of the Hatch Act are employment-related, coupled with a possible $1,000 fine). The OSC is currently headed by fellow Mormon Jamieson Greer, Trump 1.0's Trade Representative chief of staff. Trump 2.0 saw him as the Trade Representative who was never involved in trade or tariff talks, while also being the Acting Special Counsel, while also being the head of Ethics office. Meanwhile, Trump has done everything in his power to prevent the MSPB from having a quourm, like it didn't during most of his first term.
Yeah, Hatch Act violations are never getting prosecuted in this administration.

Yet someone was shot and killed at the last No Kings protest in SLC.Originally posted by BlueK View PostThis is such crap. Governor Abbott in Texas is announcing he's sending national guard to Austin and talking about putting down violence. There is no evidence that the no kings protests are planning anything but peaceful demonstrations of dissent. Obviously an attempt to intimidate and scare people into not exercising their Constitutional right to be there to protest.
MAGA is clearly about removing rights.

We know that performative tantrum Abbot threw in TX when they did a legit military exercise. In paranoid fashion he sent out the Texas state guard to watch them.Originally posted by BlueK View Post
How would Republicans have felt if Obama or democrat governors had sent in national guard to intimidate or put down Tea Party protesters. But they didn't. They allowed citizens to peacefully exercise their rights.
Trump states that these deployments are helpful training for troops, and that yields zero push back for his sycophants

16 bodies have been pulled from the Bayou in Houston this year. Maybe Abbott should be sending the national guard there?Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

That was a massive outlier on a day that was peaceful around the country. Utah chapter went against strict no weapons policy and the national movement cut ties with them as a result. Your open carry laws invite the crazies who think they are protecting people imo, and this one was a case of mistaken intent that got an innocent bystander killed. Hardly a reason to call in the national guard and nothing to do with the protest.Originally posted by Shaka View Post

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

I also think it was an anomaly. However, there's plenty of evidence that lefty protests can go south in a big hurry. People need to learn to protest without it turning to a melee. Abbot is probably make a show that the nonsense isn't going to be tolerated. As governor, that's his prerogative.

I think leftist protests are far more likely to turn violent than right-wing protests. I am also 100% against Trump sending in the military to cities hosting protests."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."

A good start is not bringing guns. Sending in the guard to an event where there hasn't been any "nonsense" screams intimidation and perhaps even agitation. I believe agitation is the actual intent here. These protests are filled with normal people who are just trying to exercise their constitutional right. Talk of "the terrorist wing" and Hamas wing and Soros paid protestors is for people who don't have a clue what actually happens there and don't want to know. It's your friends and neighbors at these protests, many of whom are registered republicans and nobody is paid (such a ridiculous notion). It's peaceful and positive. Always potential for a kook or two but that's America. I don't know how it doesn't scare the shit out of everyone that the military is being brought in under such specious pretense.Originally posted by Shaka View PostI also think it was an anomaly. Tell Abbott to be on the lookout for these melee instigators.

No Kings is decidedly centrist. Go and see for yourself.
