He loves the idea of tariffs. It' makes him feel like a tough guy because the other countries don't like it. Too bad for him that he's too stupid to understand how economics and trade work.

OK Dems, here is hammer, presented to you on a silver platter, that you pummel Trump with. Air traffic controllers were among the thousands of employees who got their 'resign or quit' email, after the DC crash:

Air traffic controllers were emailed by the Trump administration urging them to quit their jobs and take mass “buyouts” just 24 hours after the D.C. plane crash.

They were among hundreds of thousands of federal workers sent the email at 8.30 p.m. Thursday to push the extraordinary offer by Trump’s aides to get civil servants to quit en masse...

“We encourage you to find a job in the private sector as soon as you would like to do so,” stated the email sent by the Office of Personnel Management, The New York Times reported.

“The way to greater American prosperity is encouraging people to move from lower productivity jobs in the public sector to higher productivity jobs in the private sector.”

The message was formatted as “frequently asked questions.” It suggested that by taking the buyout, the workers could immediately get second jobs or vacation at their “dream destination” while still on the government payroll. That advice is contradictory to years old regulations that have prohibited federal employees from picking up second sources of income.
Federal employees were told they could use their paid time off to explore “dream destinations” before quitting.

This is a light-of-day example of how Trump believes there really is no role for federal oversight. CDC, FAA, you name it. It can be done better, either with Trump's lackeys or with no one.

Go ahead democrats, these are your marching orders.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

What a complete shit show this presidency has turned out to be.

        Exactly what I expected.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The 25% tax that President Donald Trump plans to slap on imports from Canada and Mexico as soon as Saturday could drive up the price of everything from gasoline and pickup trucks, to Super Bowl party guacamole dip.

The tariffs would also invite retaliation. Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, has already vowed to counterpunch by pulling American alcohol off store shelves in the Canadian province – no idle threat; Canada is the world’s No. 2 market for America’s distilled spirits (behind the 27-nation European Union).

Trump’s tariffs threaten to blow up the trade agreement he himself negotiated with America’s neighbors in his first term. His U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement – “the fairest, most balanced, and beneficial trade agreement we have ever signed into law,’’ Trump once declared -- was supposed to bring predictability to North American trade, giving businesses the confidence to make investments.

To temper at least some of the freakout until we know exactly what they entail. Scott is a great follow on this stuff.

Exactly. So much bluster comes out of his mouth, I prefer to wait until we actually see something. And even then, you have to wait to see how it plays out. How many losses can one person take from the courts?

PinnedReport of lack of ATCs at DCA comes amid lawsuit FAA trying to fill jobs based on race

A New York Times report saying the air control tower at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport has been understaffed for years came amid a lawsuit claiming the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) discriminated against air traffic controller applicants based on their race.

The Times report said the tower at the airport was nearly a third below targeted staff levels, with 19 fully certified controllers as of September 2023, citing the most recent Air Traffic Controller Workforce Plan, an annual report to Congress that contains target and actual staffing levels.

The targets set by the F.A.A. and the controllers union call for 30.

The lawsuit represents nearly 1,000 individuals who went to school to become air traffic controllers . They passed the normal test to obtain the position right before the Obama administration said the class was too white and threw out the tests with the applicants, the suit alleges.

Former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt, who serves as co-counsel for Mountain States Legal Foundation, based in Colorado, is leading efforts for a lawsuit.

"When you travel and have a delay, it’s because there aren’t enough of these people," Laxalt told the Wall Street Journal last year. "When you see these near incidents in air traffic control, it’s because there aren’t enough people. There are only 14,000 air traffic controllers. A thousand were scrapped a decade ago, and the bottom line is they’ve never made up losing all of this pipeline."

lol, yeah, the BRICS are going to create their own currency. This is Trump's MO, attack something that isn't there and then claim victory when it doesn't appear.

                          Ominous final three words.

Kinda dumb question, but can one of you MAGA folks or Trump voters please help me understand what it is exactly that Canada and Mexico have done to warrant these tariffs?

It takes years of training to get a new ATC. Most fail along the way. The DEI initiatives were intended to broaden the number of people willing to subject themselves to horrifying working conditions and an insane employer, on the off chance that the 75% white and 85% male demographic of the ATC might not represent the true best of the best. It had limited success anyway.
