I have to come clean, I totally made it up. It's something I wish HUD would do. While it may seem like I'm joking, I truly think that progs are better suited at taking this stuff in stride as evidenced by how the homeless shelter matter was handled by the people in SLC. I also mentioned the example in Marin County -- those people would have totally been on board with the low income public housing but for the terrible environmental impact that 200 people would cause.

Speaking of building low income housing and homeless shelters, it appears as if Los Angeles has been a pioneer in humanely managing the issue:

Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

    • I still don’t get why SLC needs a homeless shelter. I thought there were no more homeless in SLC thanks to the government plan to give them all houses. I wonder what happened to that plan.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

It was a good plan that helped with the chronically homeless. It never eradicated homeslessness and it didn’t account for the inevitable increase in that SPMI (severe and persistently mentally ill) population. If we truly want to make a dent in it we have to expand, not slash (which is what happens every year), government funding for community mental health, half way decent drug treatment (you’ve got a lot of formerly privaliged kids sleeping on the streets cause of drugs) and expand Medicare and other entitlement programs. So while cutting the safety sounds awesome for those on the right it comes with very real consequences.

Operation Rio Grand help. It scattered the drug cartels and downtown (around pioneer) is no longer an open air drug market.

It's like a sit-com caper. I can imagine George Castanza doing the same thing. "And you want to be my President."

Not to worry. Trump doesn't know enough to be dangerous.

They said they had further confidence he was not spilling secrets because he rarely digs into the details of the intelligence he is shown and is not well versed in the operational specifics of military or covert activities.

Funny... the NYT article makes it sound like that iPhones are not that secure.

                  How it’s done?

The NYT doesn’t describe the eavesdropping in much detail other than to say “the calls made from the phones are intercepted as they travel through cell towers, cables, and switches that make up national and international cell phone networks. Calls made from any cell phone—iPhone, Android, and old-school Samsung flip phone—are vulnerable.”

Based on that description, there are any number of ways spies could be listening in. The most likely method, former Facebook security chief Alex Stamos said on Twitter, is the passive decryption of the call as it passes from a phone to a carrier’s cell tower, often as it uses the Voice over LTE standard.

“The Russian and Chinese embassies are likely sucking up all GSM/LTE bands in the district,” Stamos wrote. “Modern iPhones would do most voice as VoLTE, meaning this would require a passive attack against handshake or KASUMI cipher. Seems most likely.”

The concern with this theory, as Stamos went on to note, is there currently are no known practical attacks that decrypt LTE calls. For this theory to be correct, governments must now be capable of covertly breaking a standard that hundreds of millions of people use every day to protect their most sensitive personal and business secrets.

Stamos also held out the possibility that the reported eavesdropping on Trump is exploiting weaknesses in Signaling System No. 7, the four-decades-old networking protocol that allows cell phone users to connect seamlessly from network to network as they travel throughout the world. While technically possible, Stamos discounted SS7 as the likely eavesdropping method, because carriers would probably become aware if it was being used to monitor phone numbers assigned to the president. Stamos also discounted phone malware implants sneaked into the baseband and the use of stingrays to man-in-the-middle the calls.

I don't trust GSM/LTE security, personally. Not to mention after signal hits the cell tower and gets on the network it is unencrypted.

I don't hear the media telling people to get violent.

I have heard the president at his rallies glorify violence, like just last week praising that congressman for when he body slammed a reporter just for asking a question.

And says that just after CNN gets a pipe bomb. He’s a horrible person. He also made statements that some of his supporters would be violent if the GOP lost power in the midterms.

Now that is some pitiful ass whataboutism, real bombs were sent. I can play your game sharing hateful quotes by people like Ted Nugent but it’s not the same situation we’re dealing with now. Wake me up when you show some genuine concern about what’s going on. I think you’re in Trump cult member territory.

I am guessing these bombs were about as real as the Russians throwing the 2016 election.
