Understood. Mostly I'm just surprised at how it would get any support whatsoever within the GOP congress.

      • Jeff Flake is going to retire, cites direction of GOP under Trump's leadership. Might also be that his reelection efforts aren't looking too great.

Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) will retire from the Senate at the end of his term, saying he was out of step with his party in the era of President Trump.

The senator’s surprise announcement came after more than a year of criticism of Trump and the direction he had taken the party, culminating this year in a book called “Conscience of a Conservative.” Polls in Arizona found Flake trailing likely Democratic nominee, Rep. Krysten Sinema (D-Ariz.), as well as potential primary challengers, if he sought a second term next year.

Interesting book title selection, hearkening back to an earlier senator from Arizona:

Better to use his buffoonery as cover rather than risk a public discussion or an in-depth analysis of how and why the soldiers had no shot in the firefight - because the military of Chad, arguably one of our most solid allies in the region in trying to prevent ISIS from spreading, took its ball and went home after said Buffoon-in-Chief stuck Chad on the banned-country list.

I would have preferred he'd announced he was switching parties to the Libertarians instead.

I wish the non-Trumpist Republicans wouldn't just give up. I think the republicans over-estimate the hardcore pro-Trump voters. Chances are the extreme Bannonists if they do prevail in a senate primary would lose to the dems anyway in the general election. Moore in Alabama, for example, is actually trailing to the dem in the polls right now in a state where a GOP senate candidate should win with 70% or more.

Switching to the Libertarian party is effectively the same as retiring.

Better take. Why the fuck does the US have 800 soldiers in Niger and 6,000 troops in 53 nations in Africa? (There are 54 nations in Africa, FYI.)

                  McCain, being a maverick again:

McCain told reporters Monday that he and the Armed Services panel’s top Democrat, Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed, are working on a proposal to update the broad war powers Congress gave the commander in chief after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Yes, but not exactly the same.

Except there is no link between the movement of chadian troops and the attacks. Unless you subscribe to Maddow's claims. Further, I really think you are giving Trump to much credit. His buffoonery is exactly what it is. It isn't being used as a cover. It is just Trump being trump.
                      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Buffoonery in office should be considered an impeachable offense.

                        • The silver lining about Flake retiring is that I can still vote for a BYU grad to take his spot.

You probably meant baboonery or gibbonery.
