President Trump: Making America Great Again...

Foul on the "creepy looking." She is a very good advocate for her candidate, and many credit her for getting Trump to settle down as much as he did, especially the final weeks of the campaign. She came on board late and won the unwinnable election.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Great theater? I guess if you consider Falcon Crest meets All in the Family to be great theater. I think it is sort of campy and low brow in this context and beneath the office that Trump holds. I doubt Conway was on her own in making those comments. But Joe Scarborough, who supposedly has Trump's ear, sure thought so.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostIn a perverse way, I'm enjoying watching the Trump transition follies. With respect to the SoS slot, he seems to be treating this a bit like The Apprentice, building suspense over who will be chosen at the season finale. I esp. love Conway's comments about how the base (i.e., Giuliani, Gingrich and Hannity--I really doubt the masses care all that much) thinks Romney would be a terrible choice, and then there are rumors Trump is upset with Conway. Conway's very smart and politically savvy, and there's no way she says all that crap without Trump's blessing/instruction. Trump wants to build the suspense, while yanking Romney's chain a bit to see how he reacts. Fortunately, Romney's smart enough not to react, at least thus far.
Trump has to be enjoying all the drama, including his meeting with Petraeus which really gets to the Hillaryites who say what he did was far worse than Hillary's email screw-ups. If this whole thing weren't fraught with potentially disastrous long-term consequences, this would be great theater.
I don't think Trump is a master mind. I think he is clever, but not highly intelligent, and I think he was lucky in his timing. He knew how to play the song that a large part of the electorate wanted to hear right now. Him winning is a bit like BYU losing to UVU. It is improbable. it shouldn't happen. Nothing about the situation before the game made anyone think it could happen. But it did. And we are stuck with it.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Trump is clearly no genius, but he isn't dumb. He's had decades of experience selling his, well, whatever the hell it is he sells, and a lot of people are buying it. He is also extremely lucky to run against a very poor Clinton campaign that failed to see the groundswell of angst in the important electoral college states.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostLike them or hate them, what Trump (with Conway's help) did was incredible. He beat both the dems and the republicans while spending half the money Clinton did. I began this election cycle thinking Trump was very bright and said stupid things as a strategy, then, as the election progressed I thought he really was just as dumb as all the stuff he says. Now that he won and they way he did it, I really don't know what to believe. Is he just the luckiest piece of shit ever? Or, is he some mastermind that knows all the right levers to pull? I really don't know.
And, I will bang on the media drum one more time. The conservative establishment openly believes that the mainstream media are in a conspiracy against them. As someone who openly praised Drudge, Breitbart, and the National Enquirer (!), Trump won over those with a similar conspiracy-theorist bent."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. I wonder if Trump is trying to extract an apology out of Romney only to shortly thereafter give the job to someone else. If Trump wants to work on reforming trade deals, it seems like he would need the best guy for the job.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

According to a HuffPo story, Jared Kushner likes Romney. There was an interesting Forbes story on Kushner that indicates that he was the guy behind the scenes in Trump's campaign that was running the show. He may have quite a bit of influence on Trump.Part of it is based on academic grounds. I'm curious if anyone has done a valuation of all the free media time Trump got throughout the primary season. His stupid press conferences were usually covered in their entirety (certainly waaaay more than those of other candidates); the arrival of the Trump jet at any airport got more coverage than any arrival of Air Force One; and Trump was in the news pretty much every day from Day One. But yes, his ability to manipulate the media is legendary, and saved him probably hundreds of millions.Originally posted by imanihonjin View PostLike them or hate them, what Trump (with Conway's help) did was incredible. I accept the penalty for the careless ad hominem. But compounding my felony, I'll note that when one catches a superficial glimpse of her, one might think "hawt", but upon closer inspection... It's kind of like a Seinfeldian two-face. And no doubt she's very good at what she does.Originally posted by myboynoah View PostFoul on the "creepy looking." I certainly didn't mean it was great theater in the Sophocles (although we may be watching a Greek tragedy) or Arthur Miller (I hope Trump's conclusion is better than Willy Loman's) tradition; I should have gone with "entertainment."Originally posted by creekster View PostGreat theater? Reality shows are considered entertainment, that doesn't mean they possess anything of value.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostI certainly didn't mean it was great theater in the Sophocles (although we may be watching a Greek tragedy) or Arthur Miller (I hope Trump's conclusion is better than Willy Loman's) tradition; I should have gone with "entertainment.""Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."
Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

Look, I admit I've made exactly that observation. But such honest talk became forbidden. Now though, in Trump's Great America, you're showing us that we can speak the truth!Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostI accept the penalty for the careless ad hominem. Run away, Mitt:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/article...l-d-trump.htmlYes, it’s tempting. Secretary of State! Mr. Secretary, welcome to Beijing! Mr. Secretary, His Excellency the Emir salutes you! And that plane, and the retinue, and the portrait that will hang on the Foggy Bottom wall forever. I get it.
So there’s that and there’s the notion that people can rationalize their way to any conclusion. I’d be doing it not for him, he has surely told Ann, in between her gallops on Rafalca, but for the country. “I could be the sane counterweight. After he pops off about Country X in a tweet, I’d be the guy who could make the call to smooth the ruffled feathers. I would thus be indispensible! And who could do this job better than I? Giuliani? Out in the world to put out fires Trump lit? Please. That’d be like sending Bannon to Anti-Defamation League meeting!”
That’s Romney’s fantasy version of the job. The reality version of the job is more likely to be as follows: Trump says some awful thing that offends a strategic ally, or orders a policy shift that has disastrous consequences, or what have you. Then it becomes Romney’s job to tell head of state Y and foreign minister Z that well, this is what the president wants. And if Romney does anything other than that, he will quickly find himself a figurehead, frozen out of any meaningful foreign-policy making, which will be done from the White House.
Finally, one day when he’s had enough, Trump will get up at 4:07 am and tweet: “Failing Foggy Bottom losing credibility fast. No one listens. Sad!”
