Yeah, never understood why the LGBT community was anxious about a Trump presidency. He's been very progressive on those issues, even during the campaign.

LGBTs can now go home from the riots, evangelical Christians are all going, "Huh!?!?!?"
    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

They've always been apprehensive about Aversion-Therapy-Pence, though.

Guess what else has already been decided by the Supreme Court.

        Abortion.

        Sorry evangelicals!

This is going to be pretty convenient with Trump and Pence having many differences of opinion.

A lot of, yea but Pence thinks. Yea but Trump thinks. If they both happen to agree on something, then we can even go to the, yea but the White Supremisist (forgot his name) thinks.

              • This is so funny to me. His wife did girl on girl photo shoots. He regularly appeared on Stern. He randomly grabs vaginas. He has affairs with married women. He's been married three times. Did anyone think he really cared about conservative social issues? Like Trump was kept up at night about the sanctity of marriage. This was an easy way to get evangelical votes then and it's an easy way to get LGBT approval now.

He's a master manipulator. I do think he will appoint conservative judges, but I don't think abortion or gay marriage will be deal-killers. Are those even still a thing for evangelicals?

Haven't about all of us given up on abortion and gay marriage? For the "religious" I think it is now about live and let live. You can believe in gay marriage and it is the law of the land but don't force me to perform gay marriages.

Interesting. So the focus is now on preserving first amendment freedoms.

What happened to the bill in Alabama to get the government out of the business of marriage? That sounded like a good idea to me. All you need is a lawyer to draw up a contract for the two (or more) parties wanted to enter into an union. Of course, if don't want to go to all that trouble upfront and pay the lawyer then just cohabitate (and pay the lawyers later to settle things up when you move out). The lawyers still get paid. Everyone gets to marry all the same sex people, dogs, sheep, etc. they want. And you don't have to perform any marriages you don't want. Win-win for everyone except the government doesn't get any more revenue for printing up shitty marriage licenses.

Someone probably knows and I would be interested to know if the LGBT community fought it. I think they want to be considered as normal as anyone else. Maybe not, maybe some do and some don't. Someone who has far more knowledge of the gay community could enlighten me. I don't consider the activists as necessarily representitive of the gay community.

Heck, I am sure there is at least one gay on Trumps transistion team. That probably doesn't sit well with the activists.

Anecdotal for sure, Bret Easton Ellis, the guy who wrote American Psycho and Less Than Zero among other things, who's gay but appears to have similar political leanings as Peter Thiel said months ago that he knows all kinds of Trump supporters within his social circle.

I highly recommend his podcast and he has some fascinating things to say about SJWs and the non-stop political posturing out of the entertainment industry. Basically if someone doesn't have anything interesting to write/say/sing/film etc., then they fall back on a circle-jerking political statement.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                              • The triumphant GOP is mired in crisis after crisis

Trump won the presidency in a manner that undermines the GOP’s electoral future. He demonstrated that the “coalition of the ascendant” — including minorities, millennials and the college-educated — is not yet ascendant. But in a nation where over half of children under 5 years old are racial or ethnic minorities, it eventually will be. Trump was elected by a 70 percent white electorate. But that was about two percentage points lower than in the 2012 election — and that number has been dropping by about two points each presidential election for decades. Trump’s white-turnout strategy is not the wave of the future; it is the last gasp of an old and disturbing electoral approach.

                                . . . . . .

We should hope that the president-elect will be sobered by the responsibilities of high office and discovers hidden resources of charity (even though malice has been the habit of a lifetime). He deserves the space at least to try. But Republicans may end up depending on a younger generation of leaders — Ryan, Ben Sasse, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, Jeff Flake, Marco Rubio — to demonstrate the possibility of unifying aspiration and civil disagreement. And that would lay the foundation for a lasting and honorable victory.
