We can't afford this psychopath again. He's completely outside of reality. Unfortunately it's the evil criminally insane kind. It will be worse the second time and very possibly catastrophic. That said, I still think he loses.
I don't get the complacency. He has shown us who he is. This time he will be more reactive and angry. He will tolerate less pushback, and is also increasing in his own state of mental decline. People can mock away, but this election does really determine the future of our country. We have been so lulled into complacency by normalcy bias.

What goes on in folks' houses has far more impact on the future of this country than what goes on in the White House. Trump isn't who I want in the White House despite the likelihood I will like the NLB and FCC decisions more during his tenure than I would Biden, but don't let your emotions take you on a ride that will give you real problems. You and this country can be OK with another Trump Presidency. We would be better with a better President obviously, but we are resilient and our systems, while being undermined by our politicians for years and vulnerable, are still the best in the history of mankind.

Let me explain the complacency as you see it-his opponent stinks. To many of us his policies stink and his posse sucks as well. Further, to the voters who don't really care about policy he appears adled and unable to perform the job. Arguing with the electorate about his mental state and fitness is not a winning argument. We are here because we are not a serious people, but on a curve I still think "Merica gets an "A." So even though there is no way this outcome will be what I want-I am used to it not voting for a winner in a Presidential election since 2004, we can survive.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

Outside of honest personal political preferences, I am still hopeful (though less than I was a few years ago) that the country will survive Trump. I guess I would say in response is that I really do believe that the country has not faced an existential threat like Trump in my lifetime. And I'm hard pressed to think of any president who in peacetime is as dangerous as him. He embodies everything that is wrong in politics, no matter how righteous his cause might be. The sheer amount of lies and demagoguery are both alarming and exhausting, and most people forget about how anti-democratic and immoral his rallies and stated policies are. Further, he has a propaganda machine that ignores his policies, many of which are antithetical to the conservative cause, and downplay his anti-democratic ones, all in the name of getting an (R) in power. And most elected republicans are hungry enough for power that they are going along for the ride.

Countries and political systems inevitably fall. The US is still on the stronger end of resilient nations spectrum. However, we are in the unique position of having only 2 national political parties. Currently one of them has no interest in rooting out a leader who has no business being president. And half of the electorate doesn't care either. That doesn't bode well for the immediate future. I think it's a given that the next republican candidate will take on most of Trump's persona. But what I think is also likely is that democrats will see how politically enticing Trump's level of demagoguery is. Don't be surprised if we see a charismatic democratic leader leading the electorate closer to socialism than you're comfortable with.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? There's a lot of potential for a second term of Trump to be catastrophically bad for the country. And who's to say he wouldn't attempt to stay in power (again) when his term is supposed to be over?

For judicial appointments I can't imagine him going with the Federalist Society pre approved list again. It didn't give him the results he wanted. The only qualification is going to be loyalty to him.Same goes for all staff and other appointments. Pretty sure he learned a few things the first time. No "adults in the room" this time.

Hmm... Maybe a WashPo poll stating that they trust Trump more Grandpa Joe with democracy:

Trump trusted more than Biden on democracy among key swing-state voters

Good thing we don't let the WashPo poll run the economy.

Thank god… I was worried we were going to have a complete idiot for the 47th POTUS. It’s just Utah has an idiot for a senator.

                            • Mrs. NWC is meeting with her black powder rifle club today. Good people but hard right and Trump supporters. She is in charge of getting the 501(c) in place for the club. Initially some in the group wanted to refer in the preamble or whatever it is the 501(c) needs to a specific political statement, as opposed to what Mrs. NWC is pushing, which is along the lines of promoting responsible support of the second amendment.

Anyways after the assassination attempt she was dreading how much pro-Trump talk she's going to hear. Judging by the quality of memes she got last night, it'll be a lot. She specifically timed her drive to the gun range to coincide with her pairing with friends who are less pro-Trump. Not the end of the world to hear some full-throated pro-Trump talk, but it has been increasing there these last few months.
