Fed study: Trump tariffs backfired, caused job losses and higher prices
"We find that tariff increases enacted in 2018 are associated with relative reductions in manufacturing employment and relative increases in producer prices," the report by Fed economists Aaron Flaaen and Justin Pierce reads.
MarketWatch first reported the study, noting that 10 primary industries were hit by retaliatory tariffs and higher prices, including producers of magnetic and optical media, leather goods, aluminum sheet, iron and steel, motor vehicles, household appliances, sawmills, audio and video equipment, pesticide, and computer equipment.Last edited by myboynoah; 06-24-2020, 10:26 PM.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

That moron butchers the Franklin quote in the service of a stupid argument (Franklin is believed to have written, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"). It's weird, not to mention an indictment of our education system, that some people think being required to wear a mask is a violation of essential liberty. I assume they feel the same way about seat belts or, for that matter, speed limits.Originally posted by myboynoah View Post

Yeah, so djt and the White House are liars. I know, not shocking.
Trump Got Written Briefing in February on Possible Russian Bounties, Officials Say
It's not as if people don't keep records on this, especially the PDB. The facts were going to come out.American officials provided a written briefing in late February to President Trump laying out their conclusion that a Russian military intelligence unit offered and paid bounties to Taliban-linked militants to kill U.S. and coalition troops in Afghanistan, two officials familiar with the matter said.
The investigation into the suspected Russian covert operation to incentivize such killings has focused in part on an April 2019 car bombing that killed three Marines as one such potential attack, according to multiple officials familiar with the matter.
The new information emerged as the White House tried on Monday to play down the intelligence assessment that Russia sought to encourage and reward killings — including reiterating a claim that Mr. Trump was never briefed about the matter and portraying the conclusion as disputed and dubious.
But that stance clashed with the disclosure by two officials that the intelligence was included months ago in Mr. Trump’s President’s Daily Brief document — a compilation of the government’s latest secrets and best insights about foreign policy and national security that is prepared for him to read. One of the officials said the item appeared in Mr. Trump’s brief in late February; the other cited Feb. 27, specifically.
CIA Director Haspel's carefully worded statement says more by what it doesn't say.

WSJ says... We can blame the NSA for the reason that Drumpf wasn't briefed.
NSA Differed From CIA, Others on Russia Bounty Intelligence
Lawmakers say intelligence contains evidence that Russia paid bounties to insurgent for attacks on Americans
The National Security Agency strongly dissented from other intelligence agencies’ assessment that Russia paid bounties for the killing of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan, according to people familiar with the matter.
The disclosure of the dissent by the NSA, which specializes in electronic eavesdropping, comes as the White House has played down the revelations, saying that the information wasn’t verified and that intelligence officials didn’t agree on it.
Because of that, President Trump was never personally briefed on the threat, the White House said, although the information was included in written intelligence materials prepared for Mr. Trump and has been known for several months, some lawmakers said after briefings this week at the White House.
