  • Agreed that Sasse's impeachment vote was a somewhat surprising disappointment, but at least he seems to be back on track. Meanwhile, George Will (whose writings I don't always love--The Conservative Sensibility was at times a turgid slog) produces a scathing and immensely entertaining column calling not only for Trump's defeat but for the voters to expel his lackeys in Congress. One should read the entire brief column, but for those blocked by the paywall, a few highlights:

This unraveling presidency began with the Crybaby-in-Chief banging his spoon on his highchair tray to protest a photograph — a photograph — showing that his inauguration crowd the day before had been smaller than the one four years previous. Since then, this weak person’s idea of a strong person, this chest-pounding advertisement of his own gnawing insecurities, this low-rent Lear raging on his Twitter-heath has proven that the phrase malignant buffoon is not an oxymoron.
    ...
The person voters hired in 2016 to “take care that the laws be faithfully executed” stood on July 28, 2017, in front of uniformed police and urged them “please don’t be too nice” when handling suspected offenders. His hope was fulfilled for 8 minutes and 46 seconds on Minneapolis pavement.
    ...
Those who think our unhinged president’s recent mania about a murder two decades ago that never happened represents his moral nadir have missed the lesson of his life: There is no such thing as rock bottom. So, assume that the worst is yet to come. Which implicates national security: Abroad, anti-Americanism sleeps lightly when it sleeps at all, and it is wide-awake as decent people judge our nation’s health by the character of those to whom power is entrusted. Watching, too, are indecent people in Beijing and Moscow.

      Good read.

      SAD!

But true, as evinced by DJT's valiant march to St. John's Church.
      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

fantastic article, but that last paragraph you highlighted is

So many good lines. Another fave:

Voters must dispatch his congressional enablers, especially the senators who still gambol around his ankles with a canine hunger for petting.

I can't take credit. I found it on the internet, but it looks like an UT creation.

I'm not understanding the whole idea behind the photo op. It seems strange that he'd walk to a church, hold up a bible, and then walk back to the white house. For what? Was there some symbolic meaning of it? The photos I"ve seen seem out of place and just weird.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
