The rhetoric from the Trump Administration (wrt NK) is on par with the worst of George W. Bush and his administration. No question about that.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostTrump doubles down on his NorKo tough talk: Trump: Maybe 'fire and fury' statement on North Korea wasn't tough enough - CNBC

Sorry, but still annoying and offensive.Originally posted by creekster View Postoh, come on. Trump was surely just engaging in playground banter. The tough guy. "You didnt hurt me, you did me a favor!" " I didnt want those guys anyway." Youre all acting like, for the first time ever, Trump was trying to offer a sober assessment of a situation. Clearly, he was not.

Ha. Yeah, as if that makes any difference. The kind of comeback one would expect from an 8th-grader.Originally posted by BlueK View PostSorry, but still annoying and offensive."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? I genuinely don't know what he was doing. I certainly wouldn't assert that anything he's ever said, with the possible exception of his election night speech, could be considered a 'sober assessment.' He's off the rails by default-- just not sure if he's talking shit trying to come off smelling like a rose (default setting) or tweaking Putin (which would be a first: less likely scenario).Originally posted by creekster View Postoh, come on. Doesn't that kind of sum up every tweet Trump has ever made? To the point that it's the kind of comeback you expect from him?Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostHa. Yeah, as if that makes any difference. The kind of comeback one would expect from an 8th-grader.
I have to admit that I get a kick out of eliciting reactions from people at times. If it weren't for the fact that his reactions are so spectacular, I think it would start to get boring with Trump. No challenge.

frank won't post it because it doesn't exist.Originally posted by creekster View PostYou think I am bending over backward to give him the benefit of the doubt? Frank, I am more surprised at just how willfully one-sided you see the evidence in front of you. No matter what, you think it speaks to Trump's collusion with the Russians. E.v.e.r.y.t.i.m.e. Have you ever not reached that conclusion? Trump is either a complete fool and moron or he is a deft rhetorician depending on what suits you at the moment. The fact is he MIGHT be tied up with the Russians, but seeing a Putin behind every tree doesnt really advance that story, it just undermines your own credibility.
And I am still looking forward to your posting some factual support from one of your quality sources for the specific conclusions you are reaching.
From the referenced bloomberg article, "Why Some U.S. Ex-Spies Don't Buy the Russia Story":
One hopes that the numerous investigations into Trump-Russia are based on hard evidence, not easy assumptions. But since these investigations are not transparent at this point, the only way to make sure their attention is still focused on the technical aspects of the suspected Russian hacks and leaks is to present the available evidence, along with any arguments undermining it, to the public.
Many Americans' certainty about Russian involvement, which has led to increased hostility toward Russia, is partly Russian President Vladimir Putin's fault. Putin has earned a reputation for prevarication with the pointless denials of Russian involvement in Ukraine and with dogged attempts to falsify evidence in the shooting down of a passenger airliner over eastern Ukraine in 2014. But it's also the result of an unabashedly partisan media battle.
Having been burned so badly on the Iraq intelligence claims in 2003, you would think major U.S. media would apply more journalistic skepticism and rigor here, even if, to the broader public, Russia is a faraway power to which it's easy to ascribe pretty much any nefarious activity.
[...]
The U.S. public didn't quite buy Clinton's "the Russians did it" line last year, and she lost the election. By now, though, many Americans are sold on it. That may be an Iraq-sized mistake, leading to a dangerous failure to recognize that Donald Trump's victory was an American phenomenon, not a Russian-made one. Authoritarian regimes such as Putin's routinely use external enemies to gloss over domestic divisions and distract the public from problems at home. In a functioning democracy, such tactics should not succeed. You're actually pretty funny when you aren't being a complete a-hole....so basically like 5% of the time. --Art Vandelay
