Was talking to a coworker about the subject. He said we aren't supposed to call people homeless anymore. They're a person experiencing homelessness right now. Maybe that's what trashy people are. They're just a person experiencing trashiness right now.

Got to change this stuff every five years or so to make it sound softer and to make yourself sound more equity minded than the unwoke

I've professionally have worked with the homeless population. I'll refer to them with either term. That's not a huge one for me but it is for other folks.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostWas talking to a coworker about the subject. I do believe that is the actual point, which you seemed to have just glossed over. The comparison to Rome is flimsy of course, except for the idea of the world's most powerful leader hosting a fight between professional fighters for his birthday (and America's, but c'mon - this is for Trump). We haven't done anything like that in the USA, ever - as far as I am aware. If you are cool with the bread and circus (and plenty of people are, both now and then), no big deal. If you are not a fan of it, it might be a bigger deal.Originally posted by Shaka View PostAs stated above UFC isn't my thing but it's still just a sport. Most of my friends enjoy it. As I've watched clips of the event, I found there was. a lot more to it than just the UFC stuff. Pastrana had his Nitro Circus crew out performing, the flyover was spectacular Zac Brown did the National Anthem, and the US Marine Band played the walkout music. I find most of that entertaining. As stated previously, it looked like it was well done and a good time.
I suppose we could debate the appropriateness of hosting the event at the White House, but I don't think having it there was a big deal. I certainly think that the comparison to ancient Rome is ridiculous. Much ado about nothing.
I do find it hilarious that the fighters were warming up in various rooms in the White House -- including the Oval Office!! -- before the match. I guess there's no gym in the WH, and Trump certainly isn't trying to build one. He might be trying to build a McDonald's on property, sort of like how Devante Adams has a Taco Bell in his house.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. Its just the euphemism treadmill at work. Happens everyday. You can roll your eyes, but if you use the terms "restroom" or "bathroom" instead of "toilet" (which itself was a euphemism for the pejorated term "privy") you are part of the cycle.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Well, there's the euphemism treadmill and then there is dumb PC nonsense. Un-housed. People with uteruses. Etc.Originally posted by falafel View Post

FYI, I just googled "Dumb politically correct phrases" and this was near the top of the list it gave. Lol.
- "Un-housed" / "Outdoor Urban Dweller": Euphemistic, politically correct replacements for the word "homeless". [1]

Its only dumb until it is accepted. You can't stop the roll of language by disliking it. If its not this change, it will be another one. Calling normal changes in language "dumb" and citing an anonymous google search isn't exactly convincing. But go ahead, rail against inevitable change you boomer!Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View Post

Knock it off. Some PC expressions are objectively stupid and deserve to be mocked.

I’ll pass on the obvious Heated Rivalry clip with Trump and the Egyptian president to share this latest insanity:
