Illegal orders like this are ok and every service member should always obey orders no matter what. Just following orders.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostDare we call it war crimes now? Wait, silly me, we're not at war. But let's call it what it is, illegal:
Meanwhile, Trump is going to pardon the former Honduran president who was convicted of...conspiring to traffic cocaine into the US. Murder for likely indigent people suspected of running drugs, and a pardon for someone at the very top facilitating smuggling. That is about as immoral as you can get.
Every single cabinet member and Trump sycophant should be asked repeatedly why it's OK to kill suspects but pardon who's essentially a cartel boss.
Or so half the people here think ?

Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Maybe, but I didn’t read it because I knew what he was going to say before he said it. I can’t hate the guy any more and vote against anyone that touts his endorsement, so reading his xenophobic drivel is a waste of my time.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post
That's probably why the curious independents vote for Trump. They just don't read his shit that he obviously wants to share far and wide. At least I hope that charitable explanation is true."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Trump is about to invade a foreign country. He has warned that the airspace above Venezuela is closed.

Just wait. Sidney Powell will start to reiterate her oft-disproven 2020 BS about how the voting machine software was created in Venezuela, and suddenly MAGA will be criticizing Biden for not invading Venezuela and demanding Trump do so immediately.Originally posted by BlueK View Post
I can't imagine invading Venezuela would be popular with very many Americans, even maga folks

So we attack already disabled ships and killing survivors at sea is a clear cut war crimes. Hegseth mockingly celebrates this on social media with blood lust.
Trump pardons the former leader of Honduras who actually helped bring tons of drugs into the country. We are being led by terrible people and it shouldn't a partisan issue.

i get that we don't want a platoon of foot soldiers debating the legality of every order, but I'm curious at what point, if ever, a soldier or airman can rely on a defense of "I was only following orders." Given the current news, would a fighter pilot be justified in disobeying an order to go back and shoot at survivors from the initial attack that killed most of their compatriots, destroyed the boat, and rendered them "hors de combat." I've seen many WWII movies where the evil enemy goes back and strafes parachuting pilots or sailors in the water, evoking strong feelings of revulsion among the viewers. Should we feel differently about the current case? Should a disobeying pilot be prosecuted or honored?

There may be a question as to whether the Laws of War apply outside of declared wars. I'm not saying this makes it better, but it may impact how this issue is reviewed. Regardless, this is yet another issue that Republicans are starting to split with the administration on.Originally posted by frank ryan View PostSo we attack already disabled ships and killing survivors at sea is a clear cut war crimes. The pardoning of the Honduran president who said he would force cocaine up the Americans' noses until they died, who prosecuted by none other than Emil Bove and convicted by a U.S. jury and sentenced to 45 years, after only 1 year in prison, in another issue that Republicans are breaking with the President on.
his is from the DOJ's press release last year:
https://www.justice.gov/archives/opa...son-conspiringThe former president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernández, 55, also known as JOH, was sentenced today to 540 months in prison and 60 months of supervised release for cocaine importation and related weapons offenses. The former two-term president was in office until weeks before his extradition to the United States in April 2022. Hernández was convicted on March 8 following a three-week jury trial.
...
According to court documents, from at least in or about 2004, up to and including in or about 2022, Hernández, the former two-term president of Honduras and former president of the Honduran National Congress, was at the center of one of the largest and most violent drug-trafficking conspiracies in the world. During his political career, Hernández abused his powerful positions and authority in Honduras to facilitate the importation of over 400 tons of cocaine into the U.S. Hernández’s co-conspirators were armed with machine guns and destructive devices, including AK-47s, AR-15s, and grenade launchers, which they used to protect their massive cocaine loads as they transited across Honduras on their way to the United States, protect the money they made from the eventual sale of this cocaine, and guard their drug-trafficking territory from rivals. Hernández received millions of dollars of drug money from some of the largest and most violent drug-trafficking organizations in Honduras, Mexico, and elsewhere, and used those bribes to fuel his rise in Honduran politics. In turn, as Hernández rose to power in Honduras, he provided increased support and protection for his co-conspirators, allowing them to move mountains of cocaine, commit acts of violence and murder, and help turn Honduras into one of the most dangerous countries in the world.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

It is depressingly hilarious that both Trump and his press secretary are now running with the 'correcting Biden's lawfare' with this pardon. Do his people even fact check before they blindly agree with whatever bullshit he comes up with?Originally posted by falafel View Post
