Dude, you realize you dismiss these worries and then those things happen?

Trump is actively trying to invalidate birth right citizenship. That's not pretend.

        But. BUT.

Do we really believe he will be able to do so? I know the Supreme Court dodged the question, but to be fair to them, that was not the issue that was appealed by the government (shrewd).

There numerous precedents that affirm the right to birth-right citizenship and so far there is no evidence that any of the justices are looking to reverse that.

You just said let's pretend he didn't have an open border, and then supported that fact by stating that Biden deported people at "an extremely normal pace" (??). The rate of Biden's deportations have absolutely zero to do with how "open" the border was under his administration.

Yes, there’s solid evidence that more people crossed over during his term than pretty much any president.

What were the negative consequences of more illegal immigrants being here

                • One of the smartest things border state governors did was start shipping immigrants to other parts of the country, so that the social and economic effects could be felt nationally instead of just regionally. They didn’t always do it in a humane way, but it woke some people up to the problems that unchecked illegal crossings was creating.

However, this doesn’t excuse the gestapo tactics being used to remove immigrants today.

That’s not really the initial question but it’s easy to answer. I think the biggest consequence is the potential national security issue with having unchecked borders.

According to the family's lawyer with Immigrant Defenders Law Center, Calderon was taken at gunpoint by two men in unmarked cars. During a phone call, she was able to share with her family that she was not taken to a detention center or processed. Instead, she said she was taken to the border at San Ysidro, where she was presented with self-deportation paperwork.

"But when Juli refused to sign the paperwork, when Juli demanded to see a judge, when Juli demanded to speak to an attorney, she was punished," the attorney said. "She was taken back to an unmarked van along with other travelers who were also insisting on their rights, and taken to a warehouse where she was only given water. A warehouse where she was not given food. A warehouse, where men and women were held together. A warehouse without any law enforcement employee, without any official there present," he added.

Calderon told her family she is being held at the warehouse until she agrees to sign the voluntary self-deportation paperwork.

Another attorney with IDLC said Calderon remains absent from the ICE locator. "We don't know where she is now, if she is in ICE custody or CBP custody, or in a warehouse held by vigilantes," he said. "But we do know that this is not how our country is supposed to function."

                          • What are the chances $4.5 Trillion in tax cuts put upward pressure on inflation? I know there are also cuts, so who knows where things go from here?

Nah, I'm good. I know where I'm at as a person. There's not much room here for a moderate conservative like myself let alone a full-on MAGA Republican. Yet, there are those on here who like to assign the MAGA title to anyone who might have a moderately conservative opinion. The virtue signaling that goes on here sometimes is hilarious to me.

If you think you can make some kind of judgement from the space between our screens then have at it. I'm not worried about it.

I'm sincerely curious what you mean by the bolded statement. My favorite political podcasts are The Remnant (Jonah Goldberg), The Dispatch (a group of conservative writers), and The Ezra Klein Show (liberal) and I think those viewpoints are all welcome here. My favorite recent political book is The Triumph of Economic Freedom; Debunking the Seven Great Myths of American Capitalism (Gramm, Boudreaux), such as the myth that poverty is a failure of American capitalism, the myth and reality of income inequality, etc. I think well-reasoned arguments of any political viewpoint are welcome here. That said, I think the leading voices of MAGA (Trump and Vance, as well as Tucker, Hannity, etc.) are merely political opportunists and are morally (and in some cases intellectually) bankrupt.
