An example of what they've been doing:
The Afghani man who worked with the US military for 3 years has an asylum claim pending. The government moved to dismiss. In this case, the court rejected the motion and instead set a date to hear the merits of the claim. ICE agents kidnapped him anyway. No warrant, no confirmation he was even the person they were seeking. Just disgusting.

Fair game. America is for Americans.
You have had a concert of right wing pricks like Matt Walsh and Jack Posebiec saying all immigrations from 3rd countries should, including legal.

Where will Stephen Miller go now?
I assume all the violent criminals have now been successfully deported, now that they are targetting agricultural and hotel workersThe Trump administration has abruptly shifted the focus of its mass deportation campaign, telling Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials to largely pause raids and arrests in the agricultural industry, hotels and restaurants, according to an internal email and three U.S. officials with knowledge of the guidance.
The decision suggested that the scale of President Trump’s mass deportation campaign — an issue that is at the heart of his presidency — is hurting industries and constituencies that he does not want to lose.

The parade yesterday was a bad idea but I salute the U.S. Army and those who serve(d) and don't begrudge them anything that recognizes their sacrifice. I also salute whomever chose the songs that were played over the loudspeakers, the setlist for which included CC&R's "Fortunate Son," an anthem from my youth that decries the unfairness of the poor and middle class being drafted into the Army while rich, entitled kids are able to buy their way out, e.g., by paying doctors to lie on their behalf. I didn't watch the parade but it wouldn't surprise me if the utterly clueless Draft Dodger-in-Chief was doing his jacking-off-two-guys-at-once dance while John Fogerty was condemning him.

Mrs. NWC is a sucker for Memorial/Remembrance Day events. Even though she detests Trump nearly as much as I do and was ~50% of our decision to flee the country of her newly-acquired citizenship, she watched the parade. She said it was a shame that it was tainted by all things Trump because by and large it was a good production. But she didn't believe me when I told her 'Fortunate Son' was played during the Vietnam part of the parade. A self-own of that magnitude, not only for the what the song represents but how it so thoroughly puts to bed the lie of Trump's devotion to military service, had her demanding video proof even though she had watched it. She couldn't believe that she missed it.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostThe parade yesterday was a bad idea but I salute the U.S. Army and those who serve(d) and don't begrudge them anything that recognizes their sacrifice. She is Canadian. A couple of years ago she also got her US citizenship, after about 20 years of being a permanent resident. I was referring to her newly minted US citizenship.Originally posted by falafel View Post

In my 30 plus years of crossing the border, this stereotype holds true, even when I was planning on breaking Canadian immigration laws. When Mrs. NWC was pregnant with our first child, the due date was in the summer. We thought, 'cool, we'll head up to Alberta and get free care and a kid with dual citizenship. Win win!'. My MIL even landed a summer job for me with their home teacher, who owned a concrete business or something like that. The plan was to cross the border late at night and let my MIL do the talking, hoping that a bored border agent would let a white lie pass by him. When he asked how long I was planning to stay in Canada she said with a laugh 'until we get sick of him'. No dice. He asked me point blank if I was going to work in Canada. I said no, and weirdly he made me write a letter attesting to that fact and signing it. But still, he let us pass based on my good name, not even threatening with the force of the Canadian border patrol were I to reneg on my promise.Originally posted by chrisrenrut View Post

If you knew me back then, I had/have a very healthy sense of guilt. I started feeling it bad, so much so that I told my MIL that I couldn't lie now and take the job with her HT. She was understandably beside herself, with the prospect of me jobless hanging out at the house for the whole summer (just remembering now I was also studying for the MCAT so I wasn't going to be completely lazy). Conferring with Mrs. NWC we came up with a potential Solomon's solution that would keep my promise to that border guard and me somewhat busy. At the time my MIL was delivering papers as a part time job. If I could just take over that position I would only be taking over a willing Canadian's job and wouldn't technically be taking it away from someone else. At the time it made sense to us and assuaged the guilt. So I delivered the papers during that summer and lost out on making a significant amount of money. It made better sense to us at that time then it does me recounting it to you now, but I was spared years of guilt. And I'm sure my MIL rolled her eyes many times thinking how dumb I was forgoing not the job she laid out for me, which had the greater good written all over it, little white lies be damned. But I had made a promise, dammit. And I intended to keep it (as well as I could in the circumstances)!"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd.
