Trump has done a lot of stupid things. But the most lasting damage for me is the complete destruction of anything resembling a conservative movement in America by murdering it and wearing its skin around for a few years. No one will trust the ideas of limited government or think about our only real existential threat (our debt tsunami and the eventual collapse of the dollar) for a while because he pretended to care about these things in the name of conservatism and then did a bunch of crap that at best is ill-planned and has no real guiding principles and at worst is directly opposed to the kind of action conservatives advocate.

This is exactly what will happen to the idea of democratic socialism in America if the left hand the reins to AOC and Bernie. AOC is prettier than Trump but she is just as stupid. And the magnitude of the pendulum swings will continue to increase.

I think AOC is not a terrible human like Trump is. He is in a class of his own in that regard.

I don't disagree with your statement though. I'm more aligned with past Republicans than progressives on foreign policy.
But inner-party feedback that is critical of king Trump doesn't exist.

Things have worked because we've needed both parties. MAGA wants to be a one party state.

I do think you are also right that this will emboldened the further left of the democrats. Some of that will come from frustration with the lack of action or restraint current dem leadership has shown.

We can look at other nations and see how well the right to left extremist swing works.

I'd prefer AOC to Trump. But I'd prefer almost anyone to Trump.

The pendulum will continue to swing until a normie regains control of one of the parties. This can't happen to the GOP until 2032, so I am hoping the DNC can do it in 2028.

I do agree that its a political act, though. It is designed to show Americans the true cost of the tariffs and who is paying them (us), in an effort to pressure Trump to call off his disastrous tariffs. Might be hostile, I don't know, but who cares? Trump is hostile everyone.

Caroline Leavitt, btw, is a disgrace, and I say that with full Trump intonation.
