The usuals who would be the ones to tell you this concern is hyperbolic or irrational haven't responded yet.

Unfortunately based on the actions already taken to ignore due process and to attack speech they don't like, it's not a stretch to eventually go after citizens for the same reasons. In the case of a citizen there would be a court order trying to undo it, but they're already ignoring those.

That's dismissive and hyperbolic. Trump is fucking with the rule of law. He's now talking about trying to run for a third term. As he will try and continue to make it a reality along with cronies, will you scold those of us who sounded the alarm? How about if he uses the border situation to declare Marshall law? There are other academics leaving too btw.

That's fascist stuff. This is not liberal vs conservative. We are past that. It's MAGA against whatever group they choose. Right now that includes people who are here legally but use their right to free speech to criticize the wrong people.

Martial Law. How's that? There isn't a thing called Marshall Law actually, if you want to get tripped up by someone's inadvertent mistake in the usage. Nice sidestep to avoid tackling the real issue though. It's an uncomfortable thought for Americans that we are witnessing an attempt at taking down our Constitutional system and freedoms, which is understandable. But that doesn't mean it's not happening

So Trump is saying he wasn't joking about the third term idea and there are ways to make it happen. Amending the Constitution is the only legal way and the votes will never be there for that. It's pretty obvious he's thinking of illegal ways.
