Yep. Japanese and Korean firms favor Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Texas. There needs to be a very favorable reason to locate in the midwest (like ready access to feedstock or customers). Unions scare them away.

        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

More importantly, we can rest assured that our sons won't go to school in the morning and return as daughters in the afternoon.

The DJIA shed almost 4k over the last two days. My own portfolio lost a year's worth of value.

The two days after Lehman Brothers collapsed in 2008, the S&P 500 dropped 10.03%. It's dropped 10.5% in the last two days. And this is just the market talking. The actual prices for goods haven't even shot up yet. Automakers are having fire sales to get rid of inventory because they know the poop has hit the fan and consumers aren't going to be interested in buying cars at regular or inflated prices again anytime soon.

Trump's declarations the past few days (e.g., we're nearly done and the operation was a success, things are going to be great very soon, etc,) are depressingly reminiscent of his comments during first 4-5 months of the pandemic when we were assured there would be very few deaths, that it would all be over in a couple of weeks, or then by Easter, etc. Trump is a supremely self-confident dope. Unfortunately, the problem five years ago wasn't of his making; this one is.

I would think the value of even their current inventory has gone up since production costs are rising. I also think that bleeds over into the used car market like when we were having supply chain problems.

Yeah MAGA! My pitiful financial resources took a pounding.
                  The tariffs are dumb.
Trump is not a great thinker. And Musk/Curtis Yarvin's world view deserve scrutiny.

This is where I break with progressives. NAFTA, CAFTA and free trade in general are not perfect but great for all involved.

There are bad actors with Trade. India and China especially. But they are a positive for us and our trading partners.

So did they apply their stupid formula incorrectly and cause all this disruption to be worse than it had to be?

It appears the formula, correctly or incorrectly applied, was nothing more than ass covering and either way it would have been a disaster.

I have lost three years' worth of retirement savings since the inauguration (and I save a decent chunk of change each year).

My retirement estimates from 4q24 are in the crapper!!

Yes, they are breaking the economy and "administrative state," on purpose. It's going to get worse. Hamstringing federal offices or making them vanish and firing government employees en masse is going to further strain things.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes.
