  • What’s a zero here and there?

The Department of Government Efficiency, the federal cost-cutting initiative championed by Elon Musk, published on Monday a list of government contracts it has canceled, together amounting to about $16 billion in savings itemized on a new “wall of receipts” on its website.

Almost half of those line-item savings could be attributed to a single $8 billion contract for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. But it appears that the DOGE list vastly overstated the actual intended value of that contract. A closer scrutiny of a federal database shows that a recent version of the contract was for $8 million, not $8 billion. A larger total savings number published on the site, $55 billion, lacked specific documentation.

I guess the answer is just to persist in all the lies.

      Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

They don't hold themselves accountable for this shit. You have accounts associated with ridiculing people into suicide, like LibsofTikTok. No remorse.

                  • Just so everyone is clear about what’s going to happen in the next 2 years, Elon/Trump are going to play their performative game of axing billions from the budget, keeping the sacred cows of SS/medicare/defense untouched, all in an effort to bamboozle the country into accepting his tax cuts that would add trillions to the deficit. And all those budget hawks in the GOP are going to swallow it whole.

I think you're correct. Or, he creates a constitutional crisis earlier using it as pretext to use the National Emergencies Act to declare a national emergency and essentially install himself as dictator.

If I were trying to undermine our national institutions, traditions, and constitutional order, I don't think I could come up with a better plan than what is happening now. I've come around to thinking that Trump is a Russian asset in some form. There is something there.

Anyway, we should take the L and chill for a while to see what shakes out.

                        LOL.

I can't even take the L and chill out for awhile, even north of the border. The shitstorm here will reverberate there

This is gross. Have a president shitting on Ukraine again today parroting Russian talking points and MAGA is stoked. This timeline is insane.

Clearly, you're not a student of my post in the Ukraine thread.

What's gross is not being tolerant of differing opinions.

I'm fine with, and even welcome, differing opinions that are well-reasoned and supported by evidence. But why should we tolerate opinions based on ignorance or disinformation, of which a Trump press conference presents a smorgasbord (e.g., a "4% Zelensky approval rating," declarations that Zelensky is a dictator and shouldn't have started the war, plus at least a dozen more). We should be tolerant of that?

History has shown that there are opinions not worthy of toleration.
