Have you ever posted bad trump?Originally posted by Shaka View Post
You mean this wasn't already the case? Good Trump.
I bought a Butterfinger the other day and it was three bucks. It wasn't that long ago that thing was fifty cents. Being able to purchase crap with food stamps isn't good. 7-11 loves it and their front windows are peppered with stickers that they accept SNAP. There's nothing in 7-11 that you should be able to purchase with SNAP. A. most of what they sell is garbage/junk food. B. Things like milk and butter are marked up to convenience store prices and buying them there isn't a good use of those funds. They should be hitting the Winco or Maceys.
I'd be fine with a food stamp grocery shopper buying a limited amount of candy for their kids. However, I've stood in line behind plenty of food stamp shoppers and their carts are usually full candy, junk food, and soda/beer. Those aren't the staples but we let them purchase those items as if they were.

I have no argument that people, poor or rich, should not fill their carts with candy, junk good, and soda/beer. My point is that trying to enforce and manage those restrictions will require a fairly large bureaucracy. So we trade park rangers and educational grant managers for people who are keeping other people from eating too many candy bars and french fries? Talk about the nanny state. People will push back hard on being told by "the government" what they can and can't eat.Originally posted by Shaka View Post

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Comments on that tweet are awesome. Lol, this person has it all figured out!
That's great! Food stamps should only be given for a three month period of time a 3 year period of time. It's a bridge, not a parking lot, unless they are seniors, veterans, and/or disabled. For families receiving WIC, no EBT at the same time.
When checking out, only the person whose name appears on the card need to provide an valid ID. Two step verification.
The only foods that should be approved is those in high nutritional value. Selected Milk, bread, cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and 100 percent fruit juice. No junk food, no lobster or filet mignon.
EBT receiptants should also have attended classes on how to maximize their benefits along with nutritional recipes. Maybe start EBT stores or food pantry that only have approved items.
Also, they must under go drug testing every month.
For you that think this to harsh, please go work as a cashier in a grocery store for three months.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

In the age of electronic payments I don't see the big deal. Steal some of Elon's boy wonder programmers and they could probably whip out a system in a couple of weeks.Originally posted by myboynoah View Post

As someone who relied on food stamps during the formative teenage years, I am begging everyone to let those kids live a little with the junk food. Back in my day the food allowed on assistance seemed very restricted. Either that or my Mom was being a health nut."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Food stamps can't be used to buy beer. Depending on the state, they may not even be used to buy a rotisserie chicken.Originally posted by Shaka View Post

I'd be curious how you knew they were food stamp shoppers, since most benefits these days are provided through an EBT card. Looks like a debit card. It would take a real asshole to be looking close enough to tell the difference between an EBT card and a bank card.

You can't buy a prepared food with EBT. 711 also has overpriced and gross apples and bananas in addition to other staples. People who qualify for foods stamps are allowed a certain amount. Are they going to also forbid steak or certain seafood because they are too much of luxury items?Originally posted by LVAllen View Post

Believe it or not I've dated a couple of women who were receivinng assisstance via SNAP cards. It's not rocket science to figure out that someone is using one. I also know you can't buy everything with them as I've watched the cashier reject items.
