Do you actually believe he could sell his memecoins for their reported worth of $12b? If you believe that, I’ve got a bridge I can sell you."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

How is any earning potential relevant to the question of whether or not this is grift/graft? The only pertinent question is why Trump is doing this. If you think he did this without expecting a big payout, I also have a bridge for sale.Originally posted by Moliere View Post

I'm just pointing out that because a few people have traded his memecoin for some price, it doesn't mean that whatever he is holding in that coin is worth the last traded price. This is simple market principles for illiquid assets. Did he make money off of his lemmings? Yes, I'm sure he did. Is it a grift? Yes, if it's Trump it's probably a grift. Is he now worth several billions more because of this? No, not even close. If the coin takes off and becomes one of the very few blockchain coins that are actually worth anything, then he'll have made a fortune, but the odds are that this thing is worht much, much less than the faux-finance people that are freaking out about it.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View Post

The executive order "Restoring the Death Penalty and Protecting Public Safety" EO reads like it was written 75 years ago, before the rest of the civilized world realized capital punishment harmed society more than whatever justice it brought. This snippet also gives some motivation away:
Answering brutality with brutality is the point. The Attorney General shall evaluate the places of imprisonment and conditions of confinement for each of the 37 murderers whose Federal death sentences were commuted by President Biden, and the Attorney General shall take all lawful and appropriate action to ensure that these offenders are imprisoned in conditions consistent with the monstrosity of their crimes and the threats they pose. The Attorney General shall further evaluate whether these offenders can be charged with State capital crimes and shall recommend appropriate action to state and local authorities.
Sec. 4. Preserving Capital Punishment in the States. (a) The Attorney General shall take all necessary and lawful action to ensure that each state that allows capital punishment has a sufficient supply of drugs needed to carry out lethal injection.

I would prefer the federal government to get out of the capital crime prosecution business and leave it to the states. And bonus, that would save the federal government some money as well.Originally posted by Northwestcoug View PostThe executive order "Restoring the Death Penalty and Protecting Public Safety" EO reads like it was written 75 years ago, before the rest of the civilized world realized capital punishment harmed society more than whatever justice it brought. That's the exact opposite position of the EO. Where there is federal jurisdiction for a capital crime, he wants the Feds to fight for it, not leave it to the states.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View Post

These executive orders are interesting. I don't have strong feelings about the 14th Amendment EO either way. Seems like the SC will need to rule on this instead of letting the interpretation and execution change from president to president. Trump is forcing the issue. Is there something states can do that would make it a patchwork of execution? That would nuts, but would also fit today's reality.

Agreed. Just stating my preference. But I got to thinking along those lines when he says he wants states to pursue it for those pardoned.Originally posted by LVAllen View Post

Does anyone know the major reason why Trump ordered the US out of the WHO? is it because of funding, his perception that it's corrupt (ie COVID reporting), etc.?
This EO could have profound implications for the next inevitable pandemic.
FYI the WHO does a good service for your friendly pathologists. For the last 3 or so decades they've gotten together experts and created good classifications for all human cancers. Some refer to them as the 'blue bibles'."...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"?
