I don't want year-round DST. I want to keep the current system.

The saving grace is that Trump in most things wants to be popular. So he let's ideas out there and then sees what the reaction is. If it's negative enough, then he backs off.
Just checked. Project 2025 doesn't mention DST.

After playing around with NotebookLM and using it to compare Project 2025 to previous GOP platforms (2012, 2008), I've concluded that Project 2025 is pretty much boilerplate conservative ideology, just a bit more populist and nationalist the Bush/McCain/Romney GOP. Also more hawkish on China, but that's expected.

Hey, sorry for the thread-jack, everyone. I have no idea if Trump is even serious about DST or just throwing stuff out there. I was really just trying to be funny, even though I'm not a fan of DST, because of all the issues we want our president to address, DST has got to be near the bottom.

        • With one exception I hate Trump's nicknames. They're dumb, childish, increases contention and makes our politics worse. But Pocahontas is that one exception. It always makes me laugh.

I agree that they are juvenile. But like you, I can't help but laugh at some of them. Pocahontas is probably the funniest one. Some others that make me laugh:

            Sleepy Joe
            Ron DeSanctimonious
            George Slopadopolus
            Allison Cooper (Anderson Cooper)
            Fredo (Chris Cuomo)
            Jeff Bozo (Bezos)
            Low Energy Jeb (Bush)
            Jeff Flakey

Fredo was a great one. It's hilarious to see Cuomo now try and suck up to MAGA now that he's on a different station.

Oh yeah, he's a real laugh riot.

I'll give him points for "Ron DeSanctimonious," which is pretty clever but there is no way Trump came up with it. He would have never thought to riff of the word "sanctimonious," which he had probably heard before but had to have its meaning explained to him.

One of the weirdest and most unnerving things about Trump is he really has no sense of humor at all. He almost never laughs, never cracks a real joke. All the years he has been in the public eye and I can only think of a single occasion where he actually employed some self-deprecating humor. On the long list of his emotional and psychological hangups, his lack of an even semi-human sense of humor is pretty far down the list. But it's revealing.

I think he is occasionally funny. Some of his old tweets would make me laugh inappropriately. Not in a deep, nuanced way, of course - more of the stuff that would kill in junior high. And maybe unintentionally at times.

At the same time, he is a horrible human being. Both of these things can be true.

                  • Case in point. Making fun of someone's weight is not cool. And I admire Chris Christie for taking on Trump. But gosh darn it, I laughed at this tweet.

                      • It's interesting that pretty much all of Trump's targets take his shots vastly better than he would if they returned fire. And if one were looking for ways to insult or mock Trump, there is no more target-rich environment than his fleshy body and "dumbest student" intellect. Fortunately, he's the only adolescent in such exchanges so most move on.

                        • What's remarkable with Trump is his sheer lack of self-awareness when he insults other people. Most insults reflect his own attributes.

Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

That's half the fun. Seeing exactly what Trump is self-conscious about as viewed through his attacks.

Psychological-horror movie premise: an intrepid psychiatrist devises an experimental technique that allows him to virtually (literally?) enter into Trump's unconscious mind. He wanders through room after endless room of neuroses and insecurities until he finally goes mad.

To be honest, if he weren't so powerful, I might feel some sympathy for him as an individual. There is something very sad and needy about him. Emotionally and psychologically he's a mess. I wonder how different he would have been if he would have received therapy at some point in his life.

I can feel some sadness knowing that someone like him isn't capable of deep emotional connection. People are things or tools to him.

With some mental health challenges, sometimes access to resources is a bad thing. No fear of poverty, homelessness of job loss isn't good for someone with certain addiction or personality disorders.

When individuals have had lifetimes of anti-social behaviors sometimes change is best supported by helping understand how being law-abiding and socially conforming with serve there interests more than what they have been doing. But if they've been immune from the consequences of their actions it's a lot harder to do.

For his path to have been altered, I think his experiences with his parents would have had to have been different.
