The older I get, the more convinced I am that the main difference between the haves and the have-nots is circumstance (where you are born, your parents' financial status, your race, your opportunity for education, etc). Yes, there are some lazy poor people. I know some wealthy people who are every bit as lazy, but were born into money. And yes, you can use hard work and grit to overcome your circumstances, but sometimes you can't. And some people are born into such a deep hole that they have to work 10x harder than most of us, just to make ends meet, let alone get ahead. And some people have zero good examples in their life. I have a great life, and as much as I want to pat myself on the back, I recognize that it is largely dumb luck.

I want to make it clear that I have no problem with your success being due largely to dumb luck. I think you have been generous with your time and probably money because you have been successful whether through dumb luck or not.

You're wrong. It worked on byu71 (and like-minded dunces).

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood your post. It did kind of come across to me at first that you were saying that those who can't afford healthcare are in that situation because they don't budget well.

how horrifying is it that the vote of a window licker like '71 counts the same as that of a functioning, literate person?

That might be the case, but I know there are plenty of people whose income falls into the poverty category that work their butts off and are very careful with their money. They are maybe being ripped of even more by those who game the system than the middle class or rich.

Jason chaffetz can ESAD, even more than most ex-cougars. He needs to get off his power trip and stop interfering with DC. No one voted for him here (he might get fewer votes than Donalds 4%).

You are probably right. I heard over 90% of government employees (non elected) vote democrat. I doubt he would get over half of the remaining 10% made up of republicans and independents.

You realize that you didn't hit a triple, you were born on first and got sacrificed to second; but, you advanced to third on your own. Too many white people think that the poor are lazy. Poor people are often poor for reasons both within and without their control. But, luck is so fickle.

Federal Poverty Level is 16,000 for a single person. No amount of budgeting is going to make health care affordable for that person.
