  • Republicans are so dumb. There are plenty of examples of real inflation that you could use as a political club if you wanted, without having to grasp at turkeys. Ask me about steel and railcar prices!

      • There's probably something to be said about the loud crying, garment rending, and hand-wringing about inflation that cues businesses into quickly raising their prices to coincide with consumer expectations. I've heard a lot of reports of various companies making record-breaking profits because of these convenient new margins they've been blaming on 'inflation.'

I’ve read articles from economists that claim both sides, meaning some think record profits have contributed disproportionatley to inflation and some think profits have no real impact. The most convincing I’ve seen is that there are some anecdotal places where corporate greed is driving inflation but by and large the inflation is more due to increased money supply and pent up consumerism after the Covid lockdowns.

I know in the oil and gas space, material prices skyrocketed as companies tried to find steel pipe and other products used in drilling operations. They also are still fighting over employees in the Permian Basin. If you have a clean record and show up to work most days you can easily make six figures at a low skill job just because supply is low and demand is high.

This all comes back to my theory that as the push for equalization of wages and salaries moves forward and increased social benefits are distributed, the people hurt the most by it are the middle class, which makes sense. There isn’t that much wealth in the 1% to pay for all this stuff so the middle class will be the ones disproportionately impacted by it all…for better or worse.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
