What's wrong with Texas?

The Texas secessionist movement is claiming victory from the election, saying that the election of some dozen or so new members of the legislature who support their cause means they'll be able to move some secession related legislation forward.
They seem nuts to me, but my other perception is that this wasn't even remotely a campaign issue in the state, not even on the primaries, and that the voters were just voting for a Republican. At the end of the article it says who these legislative candidates are and one of them is going to represent my district. It's hard to get reliable information about local candidates, but I skim through the ads they send out and the one who will be representing me definitely said nothing about Texas secession in anything I saw.
It will be interesting to see how loud this gets. I assume there will be a backlash here if they get annoying.

Don't ignore it. It's one of those issues that's also had foreign financial and intelligence backing too.Originally posted by BlueK View PostThe Texas secessionist movement is claiming victory from the election, saying that the election of some dozen or so new members of the legislature who support their cause means they'll be able to move some secession related legislation forward.

Yeah, I don't really trust Paxton and voted against him the last time he was on the ballot.Originally posted by frank ryan View Post

Gutted. Selfishly, I was relieved not to know anyone impacted by the hill country flooding. Just saw an article about two lawyers who lost their twins at Camp Mystic. I took
dozens of depositions with the dad in 2023-2024, and I worked at the same firm as the mom my first three years of practice.

It’s a real tragedy. Three people at my work have been impacted through distant relatives. One guy that works for me has a brother in law whose niece’s body hasn’t been found yet.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostGutted. "Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Yeah, the 'you voted for this' is fine in an abstract argument about government policies. But when innocent children die? GTFO.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View Post

The cuts to NOAA and the National Weather Service have impacted me and many people I know. But that had nothing to do with this tragedy. The forecast system was still in place and the forecasts were reasonably accurate. The problem was how rapidly it happened, the time of day, and the remoteness of many of the campsites, etc. Getting the word out to everyone on the ground is a local problem and sometimes you just get a horrible combination of circumstances."There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Paxton vs Talarico race in Texas will be interesting to watch. Talarico cracks me up. Wears a mask everywhere and does stuff like this:

He actually said this four years ago talking about his state legislature campaign in a slam dunk dem district. He's not saying the fringe stuff anymore. We'll see if he can overcome some of the weird comments from 4-6 years ago.Originally posted by Green Monstah View PostDude needs to realize that what makes him a threat is his ability to capture the center. Stupid shit like this alienates the “hold my nose and vote for MAGA” crowd.
