Politics depress me about more than fellow LDS kin, but also the very public and very politically engaged Evangelical groups. Jerry Falwell Jr gave Trump an endorsement that was crucial during his 1st run.

It largely depresses me about Americans. But it helps seeing people who are conservative posting here who don't approve of Trump.

What stuns me, and doesn't get discussed much, is how the thought leadership among the GOP has gone down the toilet, meaning they have abandoned genuine conservative thought that used to be the turf of George Will, and embraced an amoral Ben Shapiro, god awful Tucker Carlson, grifters like Candice Owens and Charlie Kirk.
Kirk whose whole thing was standing up for oppressed conservative college students really never was one. WaPo came out with an article about him trying oust election officials in AZ who didn't back the Orange Man's lies.

I am still shaking my head that George Will is considered a RINO now.

This is by far my biggest frustration with the current situation. There are principled and honest conservatives out there, but because they are good honest people, there is no way they are jumping into a race right now and be associated with the Trump idiots in control. It's just not worth it. I don't know what it will take for this Trump fever to break in the GOP, but until it does, the MTGs of the party will be taking up all the oxygen.

Apparently Trump is planning on announcing his candidacy for president as soon as the election is over. If true, i expect there to be a battle early over control. This is the point where competency must be bold and stand up to him.

I'm betting that Garland moves on Trump after the election. I wish he'd do it Monday morning.

My biggest issues with Trump among so many are national security ones. Even if he didn't get close with Russia (which he did) he has such loose lips he'd give up secrets like morning gossip and likely already has.
His coup attempt should be one of the biggest political scandals ever.

If this happens, it needs to be done with the utmost care. Naked partisan targeting would be a disaster. Let's hope he has his ducks in a row. But waiting until after an election to really go hard at him is problematic. If he had the goods, it needed to be done by now.

That's the problem, there's no headshot I think. Maybe if the Secret Service hadn't "deleted" their communications that day. Dan Crenshaw claims that the GOP knows it's all bullshit about the stolen election, but it's what they're running on because it's galvanizing.

Part of me thinks there will be an outright battle between DeSantis and Trump. They both occupy the same lane. DeSantis' window of getting to the presidency is now. I doubt he will just step aside to let Trump lose in 2024.

If that's the case, I hope they just take each other out and someone else emerges as an alternative to the clown show.

I wood take a fence if you didn't build such beautiful furniture. I am not offended, but I plan to be a huge bitch about that comment for far longer than appropriate. You can refuse to let me define our faith, but I'm Oxford, Webster.

My those SCOTUS justices are chatty:

In a letter to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and in interviews with The New York Times, the Rev. Rob Schenck said he was told the outcome of the 2014 case weeks before it was announced. He used that information to prepare a public relations push, records show, and he said that at the last minute he tipped off the president of Hobby Lobby, the craft store chain owned by Christian evangelicals that was the winning party in the case.

SCOTUS today begins to hear arguments on the so called
Independent state legislature theory. Once considered fringe and radical, naturally Thomas is a fan. It could lead to legislatures overthrowing elections.

I got to listen to some of the oral arguments. It sounded like from their questions that Roberts and Kavanaugh were pretty skeptical of the way the plaintiffs were trying to interpret this clause in the Constitution, so I'm hopeful. In a nutshell, if the plaintiffs prevail it means there can be basically no checks on legislatures by governors, state courts or even state constitutions in regards to election laws. It's an absurd misapplication of originalist theory.
