AA said it was about 20 years ago, so that sounds about right.

Was just about to make a the joke about engineers and math [22-20 = 2002] Then I looked at the dates on the horiz axis

Little more detail. This was Justice O'Connor's opinion in Grutter, published in 2003:

We take the Law School at its word that it would “like nothing better than to find a race-neutral admissions formula” and will terminate its race-conscious admissions program as soon as practicable. See Brief for Respondents Bollinger et al. 34; Bakke, supra, at 317—318 (opinion of Powell, J.) (presuming good faith of university officials in the absence of a showing to the contrary). It has been 25 years since Justice Powell first approved the use of race to further an interest in student body diversity in the context of public higher education. Since that time, the number of minority applicants with high grades and test scores has indeed increased. See Tr. of Oral Arg. 43. We expect that 25 years from now, the use of racial preferences will no longer be necessary to further the interest approved today.

              Ha. Touche'.

But look where those lines all converged and the CalTech line diverged. Really interesting data.

Figures... After I had graduated. If we had this stuff when I was in college I could have gone to Harvard with Liz Warren.

I am sympathetic to the ends that AA is supposedly working towards. I also believe that merit should be the ultimate decider in college admissions. I understand the legal arguments against AA and the negative implications on society. I assume this court will rule against these universities, but the conversations on how to better prepare minority students for success needs to continue. I am a big believer in school choice and I genuinely believe that is a good start.

I also wonder what conservatives who will praise the ruling will then argue the opposite when males attending universities falls below 30%. It seems to be headed in that direction.

What is All-American working towards and what are the legal arguments against him?

And most importantly why are people trying to end me before the 2030s? I wanna live to see if fusion finally comes so the Dude will apologize for the super mean things he has said.

Hmmm, I didn't think to ask that question since the answer seemed self-evident.

I’ve got a feeling that the conservatives that cheer won’t be too concerned about their chances of getting into college.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. Ouch, man.

There are plenty of conservatives of good education and character who don't like the sordid business of dividing us up by race and think it should be ended. Just because I will cheer the ending of government-sanctioned racism doesn't mean I or my children are Trumpist hillbillies.

Can't speak for other conservatives, but speaking for myself, I'm only really concerned about whether my kids get into BYU, a place so lily white that I doubt any of this hullabaloo about racial preferences will matter anyway.
