I’ve got a feeling that the conservatives that cheer won’t be too concerned about their chances of getting into college.

I am sympathetic to the ends that AA is supposedly working towards. I also believe that merit should be the ultimate decider in college admissions. I understand the legal arguments against AA and the negative implications on society. I assume this court will rule against these universities, but the conversations on how to better prepare minority students for success needs to continue. I am a big believer in school choice and I genuinely believe that is a good start.
I also wonder what conservatives who will praise the ruling will then argue the opposite when males attending universities falls below 30%. It seems to be headed in that direction.
I know there is a downward trend but that seems really low. I suppose it could get there though. It's not helpful for the American electorate to have such and education deficit. Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro and PragerU are not legitimate educational devices. For a lot of people they consider themselves informed from those folks.

I think the nationwide average is currently about 60% female, 40% male. I was being somewhat facetious, but I find the trend worrying. But because everyone is so tribal right now I would be entirely unsurprised to see Tucker advocating for a gender quota in universities to save the "American way of life. "

Don't forget that a ton of church members think that, and I quote shit said to my face, "It's hard for the learnéd man to get into heaven."

I think we can safely assume that it is not the position of the church, nor one held by more than a small minority, that church members should not seek as much education as they can get.
I should’ve said “some” conservatives. I was making a joke about how the hillbilly Trumpists will applaud the ruling because the conservative justices voted for it…
dumb joke, like all my jokes
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Gordon B Hinckley:
You must get all of the education that you possibly can. Life has become so complex and competitive. You cannot assume that you have entitlements due you. You will be expected to put forth great effort and to use your best talents to make your way to the most wonderful future of which you are capable.Sacrifice a car; sacrifice anything that is needed to be sacrificed to qualify yourselves to do the work of the world. That world will in large measure pay you what it thinks you are worth, and your worth will increase as you gain education and proficiency in your chosen field.

I admit I don't attend church, but I'm still a member. But to me it seems like the American membership has in some ways moved to the right of the leadership.
I don't believe current doctrine or tone from Salt Lake gives any room to think racism is acceptable even it's casual. Hell the church participates in a charitable endeavor with the Wyoming players who were booted off their team for wanting to protest BYU policies.
Anyone with a brain should read that previous Oaks talk on voting and realize allegiance to a politician, which Trump has sickly commanded, over ideals and character is wrong and that election denialism is dangerous.
But there are more American members than most recognize or want to that are some of the more vocal people who move into conspiracy theories and racism.

Republican members of the church are no more immune to tribalism as any other group. But in my experience there is a difference in MAGA church members and your average MAGA voter. The Church does have a moderating affect on most. There are definitely crazy obsessives that justify their positions despite the church, but i have known a few church members in the past that were obsessed with conspiracies even before Trump. I do agree that Utah republicans are certainly to the right of church leadership though.

I would argue Trumpism is a new political animal the political makeup lends the church to being more susceptible although some stridently conservative members like BFM totally get Trumpism has little to do with Conservatism and related principled ideas.
There are younger people who enter that void through 4chan and other social media.
You are totally right about some being prone to conspiracy theories. Cleon Skousen and other "Last Days" experts didn't help and neither did Glenn Beck.

I see it a little differently.
I think you and I probably see where the leadership is as being about the same place. But I don't think the "American membership" writ large is all moving to the right of leadership. There are certainly parts of the membership-- very loud parts-- that have gone all MAGA on us. But I think it would be a mistake to ascribe that tendency to the entirety of the national members, or even a majority of the national members. The difference is that those groups now have tools to make their message heard that did not use to exist, and they have employed them to great effect.
Remember, after all, that for every Mike Lee there is also a Mitt Romney.

I think a big chunk of membership probably not the majority get caught up in that. I see it being a budding problem, but I'm just an inactive guy with some affection for the church.
