In your opinion, how could have the huge humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine best been avoided? I'm guessing it was Joe Biden's fault?

    • Unsurprisingly, Ted relies on a spokesperson on Fox who's getting his information from the same source as did Tucker Carlson and Tulsi Gabbard. That information, while containing elements of truth (as does any effective disinformation effort), is ultimately inaccurate but very helpful to Putin. Ukraine is not without its faults in its efforts to root out corruption and anti-democratic elements, but to blast Ukraine as being totalitarian, undemocratic, or hopelessly corrupt merely serves to aid and abet its enemy who embodies all of those elements.

One need only brush up on Stalin's successful campaign to tamp down growing Ukrainian nationalism in the 1920's and '30's by literally starving nearly four million Ukrainians to death while executing Ukrainian intellectuals and patriots, to understand why Ukraine is resisting this invasion so passionately. Even the so-called Russian area of eastern Ukraine is fighting with a vengeance (see, e.g., Appelbaum's Red Famine, Stalin's War on Ukraine). I'll ignore Ted's condescending (and hilariously oblivious) declaration that none of us are capable of understanding what only he is blessed to know.

Man, if only you were running the governments of all of the world's top democracies, this shit would never have gotten here. Ukraine would be Russia West and all the Ukranians would be alive, despite the fact that they are ready and willing to fight and die rather than succumb to Russia. Moron.

the countries were at the negotiating table two days ago. putin refused to stop the killing, even temporarily. moron.

          • I've been thinking a lot about Zelensky lately, and how we often speak derisively, or at least with considerable skepticism, about actors becoming political leaders. But to succeed in their initial profession, actors need to understand their roles, have a keen sense of timing, and recognize the power of words. Reagan, and now Zelensky, have put those traits to good use. If an actor can combine those traits with a solid set of values, he/she can often be among the best of leaders. Zelensky has been outstanding in his current role.

Agreed it could have been avoided…by Putin not invading a sovereign and peaceful nation. Hopefully Putin changes course before his country becomes the next Venezuela. There’s a reason Venezuela doesn’t produce much oil and gas anymore and it’s not because of lack of demand.

The US and other countries are just making this whole thing worse right now... but I don't expect any of you here to understand this.

But if Biden wants to try to take Putin "behind the gym" then he may respond by attacking a NATO country which will pull everyone into WWIII.
                  I see your brilliant plan.
                  1. Allow Austria-Hungary Russian Federation to annex Bosnia-Herzogovina Ukraine.
                  2. Use the Serbian American intelligence agency to assassinate Arch-duke Ferdinand Vladimir Putin.
                  3. Enjoy peace in our time.

Yeah! Kind of like on Django when they sign the bill of sale and then, ... stay with me... when Putin INSISTS on shaking Zelensky's hand before retiring to the parlor for some wHite cake, Zing! A shell right in the boutonniere!

How did that work for Cuba with Castro, or for North Korea with 3 generations of Jongs?
