Ukrainian officials had warned that Russia may wage an offensive through its ally Belarus into a region of Ukraine called Volyn.

Defense forces there, however, have been reassured by conditions on the ground, left impassable by miles of burst river banks, thick mud, and waterlogged fields.

The swampy conditions have given Ukrainians an advantage, and time to prepare: a local military unit called the Volyn territorial defense has been conducting daily training exercises in the area, according to Reuters.

Its spokesman, Serhiy Khominskyi, praised the beavers, which he told Reuters were more working unimpeded, unlike in other years.

"When [the beavers] build their dams normally people destroy them, but they didn't this year because of the war, so now there is water everywhere," he said.

Once things thaw and dry up, I hope the Ukrainians launch a double pronged offensive. Shoot across Southern Ukraine to take Melitopol and cut off Crimea from any logistical support-Let the units there just wither and die. Simultaneously, drive to the Russian border north of Luhansk and retake the northern Donbass that is relatively unprotected. With the heavier armor provided by Europe and US allies they ought to have more maneuver capacity and they have been steadily attriting LOC in the south with the HIMARS. Constrict the Russians into Eastern Zaphorzia and the original area taken in 2014. Then build up weapons and logistical support and go have a battle Royale with the Russians in 2024 for the final piece of the Donbass the gawdless commies took in 2014.

Putin sacked Surovikin. Maybe we won't have to wait until 2024.

I've been thinking about your post concerning maneuver months back as the various armored equipment is being promised. And agreed with hopes for the direction Ukraine is able to go.

A BBC article suggested there were power dynamics at play.

But the move has been seen by some as a sign that he may have gained too much power.

"As the unified commander in Ukraine, Surovikin was becoming very powerful, and was likely bypassing [Russian Defence Minister Sergei] Shoigu and Gerasimov when talking to Putin," military analyst Rob Lee wrote on Twitter.

Sounds like the US is sending M1s to Ukraine. One article used the word "significant" numbers. Poland has committed 14 Leopards once Germany gives them permission. I understand that the Brits have committed 14 Challengers and the French are leaning to sending LeClerks.

First off all help helps but if the numbers are out there best to just send one type. The Ukrainians will be more effective in mounted warfare only resupplying or fixing the same type of tank. But politics has its role.

The Ukrainians want 300ish tanks. That is the equivalence of a US Armor Division +. I am interested to see what the numbers end up being overall once the Germans commit to a number and free up the Eastern European countries who bought Leopards. Throw in the US Abrans and British and French tanks and the Ukrainians may have the numbers needed to conduct my highly recommended double counter offensive strategy and I can be trusted as similar to Andrew Bernard from Cornell-I graduated from West Point....on time.

Changing this fight from trench warfare of attrition to mounted maneuver will expose the gawdless commies for their greatest weakness-logistics.

THE COMBAT ARM OF DECISION IS NOW COMING TO THE THEATER!

I saw that announcement. Leopards make way more sense, so I can't help but wonder if the US decided send a few to force the Germans' hand. They have been saying they won't commit tanks unless the US does.

Speaking of which, the Germans have been dreadful throughout this entire conflict. Moral cowardice at every turn.

Poland said there were 100 or so of those German tanks that countries (other than Germany) could send in if they gave the ok. And then if Germany coughs some up, they could have all the tanks they need almost in that one type.

Looks like they could easily deliver 139.

Would it be so wrong for Germany to announce 14 but actually deliver 140?
