I think this is a pretty cool site. Like a lot of things it was started by the cool kids and they have their own set of standards that determine if you are cool. If you aren't at their intellectually cool level, they still are pretty nice to you unless of course you get into an area where they think they need to let you know your ability to think and reason isn't up to their standards.

It is quite the opposite of the cool folks on CB who need to let you know at times you don't have the spiritual contacts they do. I think all in all it is pretty fun. Of course maybe I am not a "deep thinker" and therefor miss out on the nasty jabs that are thrown my way.

It can be, but it is also quite strange. IT is a renaissance of junior high/middle school, where a pecking order is created, and the rules for attack are re-created just like junior high. The anonymity creates a cloak to behave in a packlike manner, to savage the awkward or non-conformists. It would be interesting to conduct sociological studies of anonymous message board behavior.

Topper, you have the wrong perspective if I may be so bold. In a normal setting you wouldn't feel comfortable sending a zinger someones way. However, you shouldn't feel bad at all having to opportunity to zing back. You don't have to be nasty and question their ability to think deeply, but you can zing them and not feel quilty.

It can go the other way. If I wasn't anonymous on here and they knew who I really am, these people wouldn't dare attack my intellect.

Why do posters tend to treat each other like shit all the time? Is it just a function of becoming grouchy in our old ages?

There seems to be a hierarchy of personalities, with some who have achieved doctoral status looking down upon those who don't think or articulate themselves in a particular manner. This place has become much nastier than I remember earlier message board days. Much of the humor has evaporated.

Now I am hurt. Accused of not using deep thought hurt enough, now it seems by inuendo I am accused of a dumb post. Ouch. Brilliant move on JL's part. He is trying to split my efforts. While handing me the "deep thought" accusation on a silver tray, do I split time on that with the fact I made a dumb comment. Or do I stick with the "deep thought" theme and just let the dumb post go?

Deep thought will be my choice. I get a smile and start laughing everytime I think of that one. I think even my friends out at Oakridge are going to tire of hearing discuss my lack of deep thought. Crap, I missed that putt. I don't think I gave it enough "deep thought".
