Same-sex marriage coming to Utah

Still wouldn't be ok since the parents had been in a former same sex relationship.Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostThis means that a gay couple with children who wish to join the Church must divorce before baptism. Apparently the kids would be better off with only one parent in the home. Missionary work among gay parents is going to plummet!

If a child has a father who is a convincted child rapist and a mother that traffics minors into the sex trade, the child could be blessed in the LDS church. Obviously, the blessing would need to be done by someone else.
If a child has 2 law abiding married male parents, hell no, don't bless that child. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

The bible is only scripture when translated correctly and as a companion to the Book of Mormon. No need to amend.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostThe Bible will also be amended.

I doubt convicted felons would care if their child was blessed. Also if the mom is trafficking minors her own child is probably included.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostIf a child has a father who is a convincted child rapist and a mother that traffics minors into the sex trade, the child could be blessed in the LDS church. I've seen a baby blessed that was born out of wedlock to a single mother, which mother was shacking up with some other guy. Of course it was the grandpa that blessed the kid. I've seen the kid of an excommunicated member get baptized. I'm still trying to figure out why a 16 year old kid that just happens to have two moms can't get baptized. It's not like he doesn't know his moms are living in the Mormon definition of sin after having gone through the missionary discussions.Originally posted by mpfunk View PostIf a child has a father who is a convincted child rapist and a mother that traffics minors into the sex trade, the child could be blessed in the LDS church. Again, weird."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

How many of you were this upset when polygamist children were told the same thing?

I've long thought that is a stupid policy. It's obviously there to distance the church from the polygamy perception...which is funny since we still do polygamous sealings in the temple. Of course, I imagine that policy was put in place well before I was born, so my outrage didn't just happen in one night...it's been ongoing.Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostHow many of you were this upset when polygamist children were told the same thing?

This makes sense. Seems like a very plausible scenario. I'm glad the church had the foresight on this one...Imagine you are a girl growing up in a same-sex marriage home.
You go to church with a friend and start to believe in the gospel. You gain a testimony. You are baptised. A few months later, the lesson is reinforced in church that same-sex marriage is an abomination to God and share this with your parents. Suddenly there is intense friction in your home because you believe your parents are evil and you want them to break up. You want your parents to change. Your parents become furious at the church and are hurt because their child is being turned against them by the Mormon cult. They forbid any contact with the church, they tell their child she can't go to church anymore, and they start showing her anti-Mormon propaganda. In a couple of years, the girl hates the church so much because it tried to break apart her family. It seems to me that this is what the church is trying to avoid."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. I guess I'm in the minority in that I don't see this as a big deal. It's no surprise that the Church will have policies like this when they've made it clear that gay marriage is in direct conflict with core doctrine."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. To lose to Utah State is horrible." - John White IV

November surprise!Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

How about it is a big deal as it is inconsistent with LDS church doctrine.Originally posted by kccougar View PostI guess I'm in the minority in that I don't see this as a big deal. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.Originally posted by Moliere View Posthttp://www.cougarboard.com/board/mes...ml?id=14864360
This makes sense. Seems like a very plausible scenario. I'm glad the church had the foresight on this one...
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
