Just read the entire speech and it is great. In addition to calling out Kim Davis, he called out Jerry Brown and the other governors who refused to defend their state laws.

Clear cases for the application of this principle are the public officials in the executive or judicial branch who enforce and interpret the laws. All such officials take an oath to support the constitution and laws of their jurisdiction. That oath does not leave them free to use their official position to further their personal beliefs—religious or otherwise—to override the law. Office holders remain free to draw upon their personal beliefs and motivations and advocate their positions in the public square. But when acting as public officials they are not free to apply personal convictions—religious or other—in place of the defined responsibilities of their public offices. All government officers should exercise their civil authority according to the principles and within the limits of civil government. A county clerk’s recent invoking of religious reasons to justify refusal by her office and staff to issue marriage licenses to same-gender couples violates this principle. Far more significant violations of the rule of law and democratic self-government occur when governors or attorneys general refuse to enforce or defend a law they oppose on personal grounds—secular or religious. Constitutional duties, including respect for the vital principle of separation of powers, are fundamental to the rule of law. Government officials must not apply these duties selectively according to their personal preferences—whatever their source.

This makes no sense at all. Children of same-sex couple cannot be blessed or baptized

I guess they'll have to move out of the house if they want to get baptized. Weird.

KUTV In a major policy announcement, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says children living in a same-sex household may not be blessed as babies or baptized. The decision, which was released Thursday, takes effect immediately, LDS church spoke

"A natural or adopted child of a parent living in a same-gender relationship, whether the couple is married or cohabiting, may not receive a name and a blessing," the policy reads.

Natural or adopted children living in a same-sex household will only be allowed to be baptized once they are 18, disavow the practice of same-sex cohabitation or marriage, and stop living within the household, according to the policy. Such baptism would still require the approval of the church's governing First Presidency.
Also, looks like being in a same-sex marriage now constitutes apostasy

UPDATE: 11132015 11:30 a.m. - LDS Church adds more clarification to same-sex marriage policy in Handbook 1KUTV The LDS church has clarified to its leaders that being in a same-sex marriage is considered a form of apostasy. The update came to what is known

In addition to the previous definitions of apostasy, the new version declares members who "are in a same-gender marriage" qualify as apostate. Leaders are required to pursue church discipline for anyone who meets these definitions.
This actually seems in line with an actual definition of apostasy so I guess I can't really criticize it other than to say it would be nice to just leave them be and not drag them into a disciplinary council for it.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

Seems to follow the same policy that's been around for a long time for children living in polygamous families. They can't be baptized until they are 18 and disavow the polygamous lifestyle.

So an 8 year old kid can't be baptized if he lives with his gay parents? Is the church really going there? Wow

I'm hoping this is a hoax. This policy is indefensible and inconsistent with LDS teachings.

This means that a gay couple with children who wish to join the Church must divorce before baptism. Apparently the kids would be better off with only one parent in the home. Missionary work among gay parents is going to plummet!

I agree except for the fact that policy is more to distance the church from polygamy. This new policy is weird. Both policies are wrong. I'm glad I'm not a bishop because there is no way I'd want to enforce this new policy. Thankfully, or unthankfully, there will be very little opportunities in the world where this will need to be enforced. Are there any active, church going gay married members?

If you believe that children choose their parents they they should be held accountable for choosing gay ones.

I think the key takeaway is that we really need to stop being so welcoming to gay people. This should help.
