I don't know enough to know if what went on in the pool is unusual or not. I know enough to know that what has been alleged out of the pool IS unusual and unacceptable.
That's one thing I've been wondering about. Were the training methods described in the Yahoo article fairly standard for swimmers? Can anyone familiar with this weigh in?

    That remains to be determined.
The good doctor could easily clear this up by simply answering that question concerning his knowledge and response. He shouldn't need an outside team of investigators to tell him what he knew, when he knew it, and what he did about it.

I already did, well before reading this.

And the conclusions that people on this thread have reached are astounding, given that there is no evidence or even allegations in the Yahoo article of what Hill knew, when he knew it, and what (if anything) he did about it. Now, if there were things going on that endangered athletes that Hill knew about or should have known about, and he did nothing about it, then I'll agree that Hill's head should roll. But maybe we should actually find that out before comparisons are made to PSU. That's just disgusting. The key to the PSU scandal was evidence that Paterno and the higher-ups actually knew what was going on and they actively covered it up. Here there is no evidence, or even allegations in the Yahoo article, of what Hill knew, let alone that there was a coverup. Again, if that turns out to be the case, Hill should be run out of town, but again to compare him to people who were aiding and abetting child rape while we know the answers to none of these questions is absurd and offensive.

I love how defensive Ute fans get. The state of Utah should shut down the entire school, it is an embarrassment to our great state and the sports program should be abolished. They clearly do not fit in to the mission of the state of utah.

Chris Hill is a dick and that swim coach is a pedophile. They are perfect for the Utes, it is nice for Ute fans to relate to the coaches and admin up on the hill.

The hook is showing a little underneath the tail of that worm. Put a salmon egg on to cover it better.

Kind of sad that you need to FOIA the university to find this out.

What do you mean? Are you saying that Hill should just come out and say everything he knows and when he knew it?

If that's what you're saying then, no offense, you don't really understand how these things work. I'm sure Hill isn't allowed to discuss that, even if he wanted to.

This is an example of junkie's (poor) trolling skills. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why he can get under the skin of so many of my fellow Ute fans.

I'm sure they're capable of doing a fine job, but it sure gives the appearance of impropriety.

I don't think it would be that difficult to find someone who didn't attend the University of Utah who is a lawyer and can investigate this. Whether or not you agree with who they chose, can't you see that it could appear badly that they've chosen their own alumni to perform this investigation?

Your goal is to have the best group doing it regardless of their alma mater. You are a fool to have certain prerequisites in mind that don't start and stop with the who is the best hire for the job that is required. In a word, the U doesn't give a rats ass to appearance. They have hired the outside firm that they feel will do the job well. And FTR, the U didn't choose Sullivan.

Some of you guys can't stop thinking like fans. As a professional, these gentlemen are being paid to do a thorough job. Their credibility takes a hit in their profession if they do a sham investigation to help the school.

When did he first become aware of the issues with the swimming coach? What did he do about it? This has all gotten a bit too lawyerly, as if people are hiding something and playing for time. .

Why is he required to answer these questions for you? At this point, any statement that he would make is dismissed by the masses as self serving. Why waste the time/effort?

I have been thinking about this choice quite a bit tonight, I think I understand the thinking. One of the most valuable experiences I have professionally had was working with a malpractice defense attorney. He was assigned to defend me in a case, but the education that I received while we reviewed the chart was invaluable. He was able to show me all of the areas/flaws in my documentation/office processes that may expose me to liability in the future.

Pershing is going to gain several things from hiring this firm.

                              1. The external investigation specific to this case.
                              2. A review of department workflow, policies, etc. Basically, a checklist of things that he can then require be fixed to help avoid potential problems in the future.
                              3. If wrongdoings are discovered, he will have the defense team preselected, as they would already have reviewed all of the information and have the previous experience in defending other schools in athletic matters.
